Although the ongoing pandemic has kept UVFR off campus, our dedicated team leads have been hard at work collaborating online in preparation for this year’s virtual competition.

Our Powertrain Lead, Mike, and Project Manager, Peter, recently finished putting our engine back together, which included installing several new parts such as our new gear position sensor bracket and new slipper clutch. We would like to give a big thank you to our newest sponsor Kiewet. Their support and funding is going towards helping the bright engineers on our team make their projects become a reality. As technology and the needs of transportation change, we feel our responsibility to change too. With this in mind we have decided to include a Formula SAE Electric car to our development program with the help of the UVic Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. We will continue to develop our combustion car alongside our new electric vehicle, as it allows more students to be involved, and there is still lots of learning to be achieved. Well, the dust has finally settled post-Michigan 2019, and we've caught up on sleep and with family and friends! Apologies for the lack of update until now, we've taken a well-deserved break. (Long post incoming, please read!) First of all, THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us along the way - sponsors, family, friends. We truly could not go through this amazing experience without you all. A big thank you also goes out to UVic Alumni Association for their extremely gene...rous donation of $2500 to help us with recouping the costs from having to repurchase and manufacture our steering system the week prior to the competition. Thank you also to Campus Honda for their donation of $500, to Wheaton Chevrolet Buick Cadillac GMC for lending us a truck to tow our car all the way to Michigan and back, and to Rainhouse Canada for helping us with machining steering components! The UVic Alumni Association has also helped us with setting up a specific donation page for the team which can be found here - https://extrweb.uvic.ca/donation-forms/FSAE Our final position ended up 58th overall out of 120 teams. The car unfortunately had a few issues during the Endurance event - the transmission's gear position sensor overheated and left us stuck in 2nd gear (and later 3rd), the fuel pressure sensor failed, and the nail in the coffin was a blown off coolant hose with just over 2 laps to go in Endurance. This ended our chances of a good overall result - as it left us with only 8 points out of a possible 375 (275 for Endurance, 100 for the accompanying Efficiency event). Despite the DNF in Endurance, we're really happy with multiple aspects of the competition, especially our best-ever 19th place in Skidpad, at 5.303s, and 25th in Autocross! The team still had a great time, and this season will be one to remember with all of the challenges we faced! As always, this team is about developing its students into growing engineers, and the experience gained is invaluable compared to the final competition results. This year's car is absolutely our best performer yet, and you can bet you'll see it becoming our platform for some amazing performance in the coming years! We undertook an even bigger project than usual this year, as we did not reuse any components from our 2018 car and fully redesigned the car around the newer engine and smaller wheel package. The car weighed nearly 30lbs lighter this year as a result, and with iteration for our 2020 car we will surely see another 20-30lb drop! Now onto summer testing!

We are 3 days into our 4 day competition! The first day was spent passing our initial technical inspection, which checks for 100% rules compliance, as well as specific checks for our electronic throttle. The second day was spent passing the remaining of the inspection methods - a tilt test, which checks for fuel leaks and vehicle rollover stability, a sound test, which ensures the car remains below a certain noise level, and the brake test, which ensures that the car has pro...perly functioning brakes which are capable of locking up all 4 tires. We also weighed in at 466lbs, 29lbs lighter than last year! On the third day (today), we stuck nearly perfectly to our plan and completed all 3 of the available dynamic events after starting the day off at the practice track to perform some handling tuning.The 3 dynamic events of Skidpad, Acceleration, and Autocross were all completed without hesitation. We achieved our best ever result in Skidpad, and a great result of the top 25 in Autocross, which puts us in a very competitive spot for tomorrow's Endurance race, which, along with the accompanied Fuel Efficiency score, account for 375 out of the 1000 total points available in the competition. On Monday we received a bit more bad news - our sponsor VMACAir generously had a heavy duty diesel pickup lined up for us to borrow to tow our race car and trailer to Michigan this Saturday May 4. Unfortunately, it just blew a head gasket and is out of commission, with parts for the repair not arriving un...til late this week. At this point, we don't have a backup tow vehicle to get our car to the competition and are rushing to find a solution. Here it is - we're proud to show off our 2019 competition car - UV19! With the amount of adversity seen throughout this build season,we're extremely happy to have it in its current state. We're working hard to come up with solutions to replace our stolen steering system, and our hopes are still very high to achieve a great result at Michigan this year! 10 days til competition!

Hello everyone, Last night someone snuck into our trailer and grabbed a number of important components for the race car. This includes a pelican case, our stee...ring wheel, steering column, and steering rack. We have an important event this weekend and a competition in two weeks and we cannot drive without these. If you hear or see anything about these parts please contact the Formula Motorsport Team. Additionally, these parts are specific to our car and dont have any resale market. The value is in the time and effort put into them. If you know where they are feel free to contact the team directly, or leave them in a place that we can obtain them. This includes at the workshop where they were taken, in front of the office in ELW, or somewhere safe with an easily solved riddle about their whereabouts. No judgement, we would just really appreciate these parts back. We cannot replace these parts before our unveiling event on Saturday, and still likely cannot replace them in time for competition. That is thousands of hours of effort, on the part of everyone on this team wasted. Attached are some photos of what was in the boxes stolen.

We are hosting an official unveiling event of our 2019 car this Saturday April 27! It will take place at the UVic Engineering Lab Wing lobby from 1:00pm - 5:30pm.
