Hello outdoorsy people! This year, things are going to be different around campus. In the past, our club has filled the vital role of bringing students together to enjoy nature. While we won't be able to run trips this semester, we still want to provide the space for you to meet an adventure buddy, to share pictures of your outings, and to interact with other like-minded students. If you're interested in this, join our 2020/21 facebook group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/u...vicodc2020 Here's some of the planned activities: - Regular partner-searching threads for members to comment on and find hiking partners to go on physically distanced outings. - Lists with photos of our favourite places to go locally and up-island. - Educational videos, such as "What to bring on a 1-2 night camping trip", "How to plan a trip safely", "Cool places to go", and more. - Photo competitions, with themes like: "Best wildlife shot", "I can see my house from here!", "Formal summit-wear". - Social events over Zoom where we chat about the stuff we've been up to lately We want to continue to be advocates for the outdoors, and us executives think this is the best path forward to do that. Thanks so much to everyone who came out for the ODC Jam at the Pub! The night was a huge success. Ella & Friends started us out with some mellow tunes to get the night started, Alwyn and the Houseplants jazzed things up with a trombone, Saltwater Soul kicked it up an octave with some slapping rock to dance to, and Nelson Forest capped the night off with soul so thick it dripped off the stage like molasses. We also raised some $$ for Ancient Forest Alliance!

We are PROUD to present some of the Outdoor Club's most talented members on stage at Felicitas Campus Pub! Come on over for a night of tunes and good vibes with your best pals. We will be asking for small entrance donations to go to a TBD charity. Performer info in the event page!

Have you heard? English mountaineer Doug Scott is coming to the West Coast. Doug is on a speaking tour with Rob Wood, in advance of the Banff Mountain Film Festival. The UVic Outdoors Club will be hosting him in Victoria. The presentation will focus on Dougs epic climb up The Ogre with Chris Bonington and the harrowing descent that followed. Calling all climbers and adventure enthusiasts!! The Dawn Wall film is coming to Victoria! Follow Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson on their 7-year journey to ascend the Dawn Wall, a 32 pitch, 2500-foot route up El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Widely considered to be the hardest big wall free climb in the world, Caldwell and Jorgeson are pushed to their physical and mental limits, battling all odds amidst a vertical ocean of granite. UVic ODC member @galenpearce climbing in the Rockies Remember stay safe out there everyone! I climbed this route back in my first season of climbing outdoors. I didn't know to mantle, so when I got to the ledge halfway up, I simply rolled over onto it. Lying down on my back with the rope wrapped around my waist, it quickly became obvious how dangerous that was. It's nice to come back and do these routes in much better style! : @matemackenzie
