The Phoenix's students have been busy this fall with a series of readings and radio plays through SATCo - The Student Alternative Theatre Company. This week, join them for "Hey There, Mr. Moon", written by UVic Writing/Theatre student Naomi Duska and directed by Theatre student Branden Sugden. Take a trip with various humans in their tiny "Happy-Pod" spaceships that are stuck, drifting in Earth's gravitational field after their failed attempt to safely reach the next habitable planet. Note: Zoom links will be posted in the event posting from 5:45pm - 6pm.
Lots of great stories in this Theatre episode of "Exhibitionists" on CBC Arts, including an interview with student Hannah Allin, and alumnae Lynnea Chan and Sarah Hunsberger talking about their inventive outdoor theatre work this summer with Theatre SKAM's Pop-Up Theatre Home Delivery. Also, there's an engaging conversation with theatre makers across Canada who are adapting to theatre practice during these pandemic conditions (including Nina Lee Aquino from Factory Theatre who is joining our theatre history students as as class guest on Monday!). https://gem.cbc.ca//season-6/episode-6/38e815a-01362bc8d4f
Interesting interview with Theatre PhD Candidate (and MFA alum from Visual Arts) Lindsay Katsitsakatste Delaronde in the latest issue of YAM Magazine Victoria. "I am glad to have been able to uphold and hold up the Indigenous performative community," she says. Read more about how her artistic pursuits cultivate personal and cultural change through collaborative and inventive projects.

Who's looking forward to Thanksgiving and a long weekend? I'm loving this fun reminder from University of Victoria that there are no classes on Monday and offices will be closed. But also remember to be calm, be kind and be safe!
A reminder to wear your orange shirt today... and to remember the importance of why we wear it every day.

Tonight the Phoenix Theatre is lit up in RED for #LightUpLive, a Canada-wide day of visibility for those that work in the theatre, performance and live entertainment industries that were the first to go dark this spring and may be the last to return. Share these photos in solidarity with the many artists, technicians, stage managers, designers, and administrators who are unable to practice their art, or work in their field. Find a map of all participating theatres at lightupl...ive.ca This is not a protest - it’s a demonstration of solidarity and Canada’s day to shine RED! #lightuplive #wemakeevents #yyjarts #yyjtheatre [Shown: Photo of the Phoenix Theatre fly tower lit in red. Photo by Simon Farrow]
The Phoenix Theatre joins over 600 theatres and performance spaces across Canada that are lit up tonight for #LightUpLive. Visit LightUpLive.ca to see the map of locations and remember that all those dots represent thousands of people who make their livelihood in live performance events and who drive the $100 billion Canadian economic engine of this industry... many of whom we are proud to call #PhoenixAlumni. [Many thanks to alumnus and Phoenix Assistant Technical Director Simon Farrow for the lights and the photos today. ]
