#LetsTalk about collective care and community well-being, which includes our own mental health, but also the well-being of our communities, our families, and our circles of care. Resources to read, listen, act, and share: https://uwaterloo.ca/human-rights-equity-in//lets-talk-day

Consent skills are needed in all aspects of life we can embed them in our learning, working, and living @UWaterloo, not just within our romantic and/or sexual relationships. During #ConsentWeek practice embedding consent throughout your day. See what others on campus are doing by checking out the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office’s : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3vYE6ZwAjY Just a few ways to embed consent skills in your daily life:... Do you share your pronouns? Do you ask how to properly pronounce names? Are you respecting your boundaries as you navigate COVID-19 safety measures? See more

When interrupting rape jokes, harassment, and attempted assaults, we make a difference for survivors. We also interrupt the pervasive societal myth, which accepts that sexual violence is inevitable. For #ConsentWeek, use this important tool to learn Bystander Intervention Skills and share widely for others to learn: https://uwaterloo.ca/human-rights-equity-inclus//bystander

Boundaries aren't selfish or rude. Boundaries are self care. The holiday season can be an extra important time to set boundaries to ensure your health and safety. Mellow Doodles #repost

Settlers cannot understand consent in romantic/sexual relationships without understanding the ongoing impacts of colonialism on Indigenous Peoples’ bodies, rights, & ways of knowing. Check this by checking out anti-colonial practices in higher education with Courtney Skye, a webinar hosted by Possibility Seeds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QyPttMTzIM&feature=youtu.be #ConsentWeek

Joyous Kwanzaa 2020 December 26 - January 1! As with so many moments of celebration and reflection in 2020, Kwanzaa will be different this year. The world in many ways has gotten smaller thanks to virtual technology. We have found two great virtual resources and events to support a joyous Kwanzaa 2020: 1 Saturday December 26: The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture has launched a dedicated Kwanzaa website: https://loom.ly/DUrNkyA... Find content, projects, a blog on Kwanza and its origins, celebration traditions from museum oral historian Kelly Navies. Also, participate in sing-alongs, find and download coloring pages, book recommendations, and recipes for the celebration feast Karamu Ya Iman. 2 Sunday December 27, 7pm: In honour of Kwanzaa, for the 14th year, the Apollo Theater will bring families and communities together for a global celebration of culture, tradition, ritual and community with Abdel R. Salaam’s Forces of Nature Dance Theatre, host Imhotep Gary Byrd and special guests mumufresh, Marc Bamuthi Jospeh, Harlem Children's Zone and many more! Register (donate what you can): https://loom.ly/KYjZ-ks About Kwanzaa: Created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966 to celebrate family, faith, culture and heritage. The celebration is modeled after first harvest celebrations in Africa. There are 7 Principles and 7 Primary Symbols that emphasize a unique set of values and ideals during the 7 days of Kwanzaa. 7 Principles of Kwanzaa: 1. Umoja (unity) 2. Kujichagulia (self-determination) 3. Ujima (collective responsibility) 4. Ujamaa (Cooperation) 5. Nia (purpose) 6. Kuumba (creativity) 7. Imani (faith)

Two great resources to help set healthy boundaries over this holiday season. Thanks to our friends at Consent is Golden for the resources! Celebrating Not Going Home: "Despite everything that’s been taken from us this year, and the very real losses that many of us are experiencing, there is one thing that I personally feel we’ve been gifted: the ability to find, build, or strengthen our bonds with our chosen family. " Read more: https://loom.ly/ukh2BNo Ways to Communicate You are Not Visiting: "Expect that they’ll be a little hurt and disappointed when you tell them, and give them some time and space to process their feelings."
