Ever tried Counselling? We asked Laura, a 3B Health Studies student: 1 What was your experience with UWaterloo Counselling? During my 2A term (Pre-COVID-19), I couldn't sleep well or concentrate, and I noticed that my anxiety was heightened. My friends also saw that I was upset and stressed so they encouraged me to reach out to Counselling Services. ... The intake apt. (a quick interview) was nerve racking because I felt vulnerable talking about how I was feeling. I felt like there was something wrong with me, but there wasn't. Afterwards, I met with a counsellor and talked with them a few more times. My experience was good; the therapist wasn't dismissive of my struggles, they were supportive and gave good advice and coping mechanisms that helped me succeed outside of therapy. 2 What would you say to someone who is hesitant about going to counselling? If you feel like whatever issue you have is interfering with your daily life, even if it's "I'm so stressed all the time that I can't concentrate", it's worth going to talk to someone. If you don't like it, you can switch therapists. Therapy isn’t a one size fits all solution; you need to find someone that works best for you. Even if you hate it, you don't know till you try it. Counselling Services is currently offering support by phone and video: https://uwaterloo.ca/campus-wellness/counselling-services If you don’t feel like talking to a counselor, there are a lot of pre-recorded workshops and seminars you can check out: https://uwaterloo.ca//semina/coping-skills-seminars-online @UWaterlooWellness #UWaterloolife #counsellingservices #uwaterloowellness #warriorwellness #therapy #waterloowarriors #mentalhealth
