Please join us tomorrow for some beautiful music, especially soothing if you are cocooning at home. First is Chopin's Third Ballade in A-Flat Major, called the Mermaide because it is based on a poem about a water nymph. The second piece is Mozart's D Major piano sonata K. 576, also known as The Hunt because of the horn call in the first movement. Our musician is well-known local pianist Heidi Wall. As a extra treat there is an special guest in the interview at the beginning. Video will be released at 12:30pm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUaq3JTc0IY&feature=youtu.be

Still need an elective? Take time to intentionally listen to a variety of historical western music and the context of the day. Can't remember which composer went deaf, or was it blind, and continued prolific composing? Or who wrote an entire overture on the morning of the opera's premier while suffering from a massive hangover? Find out more questions you didn't know you had. Check out Music 100 or 110. No prereqs.
The concert this Wednesday is highly appropriate for Remembrance Day. It is inspired by the life of composer Jana Skarecky’s grandmother, Esther (Irina). It was only very recently that Jana’s family learned that she was Jewish which threw a whole new light on the events of her life: Irana (Esther) grew up in Siberia, married a Czech soldier after WWI, lived in China, had two children, during WWII was stranded for three years in Berlin, then finally reached her husband’s homeland to begin yet another new life. Irina (Esther) was impacted by war as many other women are, and the warm voice of soprano Clarisse Tonigussi beautifully tells this tale, accompanied by collaborative pianist Narmina Afandiyeva. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpjTIZyx04I
