For today's Valentine's Day love story, we're taking it back to the '90s. John Gort (BA/CA ’93) and Dorothy Chong (BMath/CA ’94) were both living in the Kershaw Apartments when their friends first introduced them. However, it wasn't until they were on a co-op work term together that sparks began to fly. Their first date was actually unplanned. They were both working late on an inventory count and went out to dinner afterward. It was dating and going to Oktoberfest with frien...ds that were some of their fondest memories of UW. In 1996 after they graduated, the two moved abroad and got married a year later. They will be celebrating their 23rd wedding anniversary this year, and had this relationship advice to share: "An equal partnership is the foundation for everything else and a little mutual attraction doesn’t hurt either " A little #throwback trivia: The Kershaw Apartments were an off-campus student residence on Phillip St. that used to be part of the large complex of WCRI apartment buildings beside Ken Sushi. "Often times, our passion for something may seem unachievable as we find ourselves too tangled in the must do’s, but it could just be an initiative away!" Meet Saihaj, a first year SAF student and reporter at Imprint! Saihaj tells us about her experience writing for the school newspaper while also balancing her studies.

This past weekend, #UWaterlooSAF students competed at the annual STRIVE Conference. Being the largest accounting conference in Ontario, STRIVE allows students to gain experience in case competitions and networking sessions, while applying the knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios in the accounting and finance profession. Congratulations to Bianca Bowen, Murtaza Zaidi, Nathan Lee, Rocky Luo and Tiffany Kwan who placed 2nd in the competition! We also want to say how proud we are of all our teams that competed, and couldn’t be happier to have such great students representing SAF!

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Vivek Goel will serve as the 7th president and vice-chancellor of #UWaterloo He begins his five-year term on July 1, 2021.... Goel says he was attracted to Waterloo because of the global impact of the institution, and the energy, creativity and passion of its students and faculty to innovate and take risks. Goel has held several senior roles at the University of Toronto including Vice-President and Provost and most recently as Vice-President of Research and Innovation and is recognized in Canada and around the world as a leading public-health researcher.
