The trial for former KW resident, activist Malcolm Klimowicz, begins today for break and enter into mink farm to expose unethical treatment in a historic online trial. The group is asking for supporters to view the trial at https://www.ontariocourts.ca/scj/r-v-kimowicz-11-27-2020/ Trial to begin at 11:00am Monday morning from Monday November 30th to December 4th.
This week in opinions... A student voices their concerns over the lack of safety and quality landlord-tenant relations in the UW student housing community. "A friend who lived in the building next to mine also had some issues with his roommate, who was forced to leave the apartment due to possession of illegal drugs. ... In another student residence building on Columbia Street, there was a reported stabbing that was covered by the press. I’ve also read posts on Facebook about student housing groups where an individual had chained his room door and attached it to the floor in order to avoid paying rent, in addition to impersonating the leaseholder of the room. In Waterloo’s worst month for COVID-19 cases, this November, there have been 658 new cases in the region, already surpassing the previous month's high of 633 cases in April. According to the Ontario Ministry of Health, more than one-third of active cases are among people in their 20s, even though this age group makes up only 14 percent of the province’s population. Congratulations to Chemical Engineering professor Aiping Yu, the most recent recipient of the 2020 E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship. Recipients of the fellowship receive grants worth $250,000 over the course of two years. Recipients are also relieved from their teaching or administrative duties. Students may be missing UW’s campus right now, but construction teams have been hard at work in their absence, completing a brand new upgrade that’s ready for students’ return. The PAC gym floor, which had been in place for over half a century, was replaced with a new high-performance floor called the Robbins Sports Surfaces MVP Floor. With a focus on developing its Health Sciences Campus, UW recently proposed transforming a vacant warehouse on Joseph Street in Kitchener into a 90,000 square-foot innovative health facility valued at $35 million. The facility will focus on health innovation, medical technology, and deep science on the UW Health Sciences campus.
