Jut as Jennie Mercanti (JD 2000) began her studies at Windsor Law, she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Imagine her thoughts when she was told that she'd likely be in a wheelchair within a year. Jennie was able to change her diet and exercise regimen and overcome the illness. In the process, she developed a passion for wellness and a drive to help others. Now a corporate and securities attorney, she is advocating against domestic violence against women and children as a candidate for Mrs. Universe. Librarian Heidi Jacobs has written the book This is Klaus and the sales of the book will help support the Windsor Essex Humane Society. "Rather than focusing on what I couldn’t do, I tried to see those lockdown days as an opportunity for doing something I could finally do, said Jacobs. I wanted to do something creative and collaborative and I realized I had no excuses to put things off. Jacobs then put pen to paper and started the story of Klaus. Jacobs teamed up with local artist Lydia Joy Palmer to illustrate the story with 28 pages featuring Klaus and his adventures with friends in his South Walkerville backyard.
