Today is our final Meet the Exec! For the finale, we have Samantha Butterworth: 1st Year, Master of Human Kinetics Applied Human Performance. Hi everyone! My name is Samantha and this is my second year as Program Coordinator for UWSMRS. It has been my absolute pleasure to serve this team over the past six years. As Program Coordinator, I oversee all aspects and members of the organization. I am also the official representative of UWSMRS to University of Windsor Administr...ation and affiliated organizations, on and off campus media, and the general public. SMRS has provided me a unique and invaluable university experience. I have had the opportunity to gain countless hours of hands-on patient experience, but more than this, I have been provided a platform to grow as a team member, teacher, and leader. Although we have faced some unique challenges this year, I am so grateful to have an outstanding Executive Board to take on these difficulties with. I think I speak on behalf of our entire membership when I say this: we are a family. Each and every member of our team is passionate and inspiring. I cannot wait to welcome this year’s new members to our team, and I look forward to the future of SMRS.

Here’s another Meet the Exec! Today we have Melody Salehi: 3rd year, Behaviour, Cognition, and Neuroscience (BCN). My name is Melody Salehi and I am the Operations Manager for the 2020-2021 school year at UWSMRS. My job as the Operations Manager includes overseeing the team and ensuring all our shifts are filled, all our medics are trained, and ensuring we have an ample supply of equipment ready for shifts. I joined this team in my first year at UWindsor. Throughout my tenure on the team, I have been given the opportunity to develop strong interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, and have practiced hours of hands-on patient care. Knowing I wish to pursue a career in healthcare, I believe this team offered me a volunteer opportunity that is incomparable to any other program I’ve been a part of.

Our names are Sara, Tiana, and Mary, and we make up the external communications committee. Our job is to assist the external communications manager with promotion and advertisement of UWSMRS on social media; including our newsletter, posters, and medic recognitions. Another one of our jobs wou...ld have been assisting in the scheduling and organizing of team moral building activities. Sadly, this hasn’t been possible due to the pandemic. Although this year has been a unique one, we are trying to make the best of the situation and facilitate some fun team activities online. Our names are Leo, Emily and Omer, and we are members of the training committee this year. It will be our responsibility to assist the training managers in planning and conducting training sessions for UWSMRS members. We joined this team last year because we wanted to experience what it was like to work in the healthca...re field. However, this team became a lot more than that to us very quickly. The UWSMRS is a great team with intelligent and driven members, but we are also a community and group of friends that support and elevate each other both on, and off shift. We strongly suggest joining this team in the future if you are interested in healthcare in any way. Not only do you receive valuable hands-on experience, but you'll also meet plenty of friends and mentors who will help you grow as a medic and as a student!

My name is Muhammad Anwar, and I am also a Training Manager for UWSMRS this year! UWSMRS has opened me up to a diverse community, both within the organization, as well as connections in the university community. Along with the insanely cool hands on medical skills I’ve learned, I have had a second family that has been so welcom...ing since joining the team. I’ve had memories that will last forever through the group activities we do, along with the more serious, more intense environment when working on a shift. I look forward to training the new recruits and building new connections!

Back with another Meet the Exec! Today we have Raenah Barbarossa: 4th year; Health and Biomedical Stream! Hey everyone! My name is Raenah Barbarossa and I am one of the Training Managers for UWSMRS this year! As Training Managers, it is our responsibility to organize and conduct training for both current, and incoming medics throughout the school year. Since joining SMRS last year, I’ve fallen in love with being a medic and the knowledge and responsibility that comes along... with it. I am very passionate about teaching others and getting everyone as enthusiastic about medical skills as I am. My Training Manager partner and I, along with the help of our incredible training committee have been orchestrating Field Training Officer (FTO) training this summer as well as the upcoming refresher training to get all our medics back up to speed on their knowledge/ skills before running shift again. If you are joining the team this year, which I strongly encourage, you will be seeing our faces at EFR (Emergency First Responder) training and throughout the year for other evaluations. I am so happy that l joined SMRS for all the people. This team is a kind, supportive, and welcoming family. Everyone encourages each other to be their best and is there for you when you need a shoulder to lean on.
