"Waterloo has a proud tradition of student innovation. This project will give our students the chance to interact with cutting-edge 5G technology and will really showcase how these bright young people will shape the future of corporate Canada," said Carly Cameron, Manager of Entrepreneurship Experience at Concept. We are excited to be a part of this hackathon and to see what our students create with this new technology!

Remembrance Day is a time of reflection for those who call Canada home. We remember those who have fought. We remember those who have and continue to serve. And, we remember the countless who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of protecting our nation and our way of life. We cannot take what we have for granted. We cannot take the sacrifices of our heroes for granted. This is especially true to remember during this time of COVID-19 when it can be easy to be distracted by... our new day-to-day. Remembrance Day gives us the opportunity to honour those who have served in the Armed Forces, not only because of their sacrifices, but also who they fought for, what they stood for and why Canada is stronger because of those actions. As we remember our veterans, it is imperative to reflect on the diversity of our heroes in uniform. Our Indigenous soldiers from First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities and those People of Colour have fought for you, fought for me and many have died for all of us and our way of life. There is no doubt that we are a stronger nation because of them. I encourage you to not only remember, but to talk about our veterans, past and present. Talk about their accomplishments at Vimy Ridge, in Afghanistan, Kosovo, and so many other theatres of action. And, show your appreciation whether through a donation to the Poppy Fund or simply wearing the red poppy proudly. Please take the time to have a moment of silent remembrance at 11:00 a.m. and by acting upon the values that make Canada a global beacon of peace, democracy and prosperity. Sincerely, Feridun Hamdullahpur

Convocation is a time to celebrate a significant milestone. This year’s convocation celebrations may look a little different, but the role of the valedictorian remains the same to represent the graduating class and address the students, families and supporters who will come together to recognize this important day. Valedictorians have been selected by their peers in recognition of their social and academic contributions to the Waterloo community. We are excited that Sim Purba, BGBDA '20 was selected for the Faculty of Arts.
