Will you help us? For This month's newsletter Dr Wilson and Dr Jensen have gone on camera. In the wake of the second wave of COVID-19 we are asking you to help... us. Especially as we near the holiday season, we can't begin to express the importance of keeping gatherings to only those in your household, and following the Public Health guidelines. Respond to our plea with an "I will help you". Share it as a post or on your story. Use the hashtag #IWillHelpUx and tag @uxbridgehealthcentre Help spread the word to keep our community safe.

We resolve to bring the COVID-19 vaccination to your arm Read Dr Jensen and Dr Wilson's full COVID newsletter on the COVID Newsletter page of our website! https://www.uxbridgehealth.ca/covid-19-newsletter "Like so many health care professionals around the world, our holiday was spent with COVID-19. One of us managed a local hospital outbreak of the virus and the other was deployed to assist a long-term care home from another community battling a devastating outbreak. We are weary, and heartbroken, yet we are full of resolve: resolve to protect you, our community, from COVID-19. While we would be happy to lose a few pounds, read more books, and pick up a new hobby, we believe our New Year’s resolution is probably the most important one we will make in our lifetime."

Dr. Jensen hits us with another COVID Rant. Think COVID is only a concern if you have a comorbidity? Do you think having a comorbidity reduces the impact of a COVID death? Far more people than you know are living with a comorbidity. Hypertension, obesity, asthma. These people with comorbidities all have families, loved ones, and all matter.

Happy thanksgiving! Today is a good reminder that despite all the upset in our world, we still have many things to be thankful for! Good food, warm shelter, loving family, healthcare, the ability to isolate and protect our loved ones from illness. What are you thankful for this year? Remember, our clinic is closed today but will reopen tomorrow. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, the emergency room is always open and you can dial 911.

Woohoo! Our nurses, Jill, Mary and Alex got their COVID vaccines this evening! One step closer to beating this virus

Uxbridge Health Centre 28.10.2020

COVID doesn't seem that bad... right...? WRONG! While you may feel a bit invincible, COVID doesn't pick and choose who it effects. Each and every person has a responsibility to help protect one another and our healthcare system.

Uxbridge Health Centre 25.10.2020

A reminder that just because we have a festive holiday coming up, doesn’t mean COVID will be taking the long weekend off. This year, stick close with those in your bubble, try a Zoom dinner with your relatives and friends. Maybe this is the perfect year to schedule all your friends for a virtual dinner party! How are you updating your Thanksgiving to keep it a safe one?

A new newsletter is out! "As we enter the next phase of the global pandemic, our encouragement to you is this: let go of what you can’t control and embrace what you can control. We are all in uncharted territory and it’s normal to feel anxious about the future. When these feelings arise, you can choose to let go of things beyond your influence and instead take charge of those that are. When you feel uncertain or upset, ask yourself Do I have the power to influence change he...re? If the answer is no, don’t pull your hair out; let it go. Your time, emotions, and energy are too valuable to waste on these matters. ..." To read the full letter visit this link https://www.uxbridgehealth.ca/covid-19-newsletter

19 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefight...ers went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted. #wewillneverforget

With the sudden increase in COVID cases among younger people, we just want to remind everyone to stay vigilant, practice physical distancing and to please WEAR A MASK! Take this opportunity to remind your younger friends and relatives that they are also at risk and that making some social sacrifices now, will allow for a safe and healthy future. Please dont be selfish! Do your part to keep our entire community protected. Its up to all of us! #MaskedUx

Uxbridge Health Centre 06.05.2020

Two important Sunday reminders: 1. WEAR A MASK! PLEASE! 2. DO NOT TOSS YOUR DISPOSABLE MASK ON THE GROUND. Used single use masks belong in the garbage can not in the grocery store parking lot or on the side of the road. Your best option for everyday mask use is to get a washable, reusable mask that that be washed and sanitized after each use! It takes everyones effort and responsibility to keep our community safe, clean and healthy #MaskedUx

4 thinking fundamentals to making better decisions when it comes to socializing in a COVID-19 world. Im sure you have friends or relatives, or have even just seen others through social media, disregarding distancing practices and socializing carelessly during these serious covid times. Our goal is to better educate and to encourage our fellow community members in the hopes of keeping us all safe and healthy. We are not, by any means, endorsing socializing, but we are hoping... that by thinking critically about these aspects, you can make better decisions about social interactions. Please share this post with your friends and family! This information is so important in helping our community continue to navigate our COVID-19 world. @ Uxbridge, Ontario

Uxbridge Health Centre 09.04.2020

As were all getting into the habit of wearing personal protective masks, its important to remember that masks are not completely fool proof. We need to take some precautions in order for them to be most effective! Heres a little comparison we like to think about

In this weeks newsletter, Dr Wilson and Dr Jensen outline 5 pillars to a safe and healthy community recovery. Hygiene Wash your hands. Wash them well. Wash them a lot. In particular, wash them before and after all outings and before eating. Dont touch your face. Wash high use surfaces frequently. Distancing... Micro-droplets that are emitted when breathing, talking, coughing and sneezing remain the main route of spread. This is why physical distancing is still in place and we encourage you to continue to limit your interactions with others. Staying 2 meters (6) apart gets you out of the spray zone for most encounters.(...) While the vast majority of viral particles will not travel beyond 2 meters, those few that go further will add up to a more appreciable load if you are spending more than 2 hours together. Screening and Testing Workplaces should all institute screening questions for employees to answer before coming to work. Take these questions seriously and when in doubt, err on the side of caution and stay home. Anyone with symptoms of concern should be tested for COVID at an assessment centre. If you are positive, it allows for appropriate isolation and notification of your close contacts. If negative, you can get back to work sooner. Masks A simple mask will protect others from your airway droplets. If everyoneeven those of us who are feeling welladopts a mask when in shared spaces, there is significantly less chance for the spread of disease. Of note (as of this publication), this does not appear to be important in outdoor spaces such as trails, walking, running, and cycling where contact with others is brief. (...) Culture Wearing a mask feels strange, especially in public. Staying home for what feels like allergies or minor sniffles doesnt sit well for those of us who take pride in being a hard-working, dedicated employee. Asking a friend or stranger to step away a few feet feels so un-Canadian (even if we say sorry first). But without a change in culture, behaviours wont follow. So get out of your comfort zone, and it will get easier. (...) Read the full article on our website!

With the recent COVID-19 outbreak at our Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, we are reminding our community members just how important social distancing and proper disinfecting is to keeping us all safe. Wash hands often, and for at least 20 seconds. Keep commonly touched surfaces disinfected, and stay a safe distance from people who you do not live with. If you are wearing a mask out in public, remember that how you take off the mask is the most important part. Remove your mask by th...e ear straps and do not touch the portion that of the mask that touches your face. Wash your hands immediately after removing the mask. Remember that gloves enable a false sense of security and are vehicles for cross contamination. Make sure you are sanitizing the gloves as frequently as you would wash your hands if you were not wearing gloves, and wash hands well after removing. And finally, remember social distancing is the best way to keep your family and our community safe. Together we can weather this storm and #flattenthecurve See more

My eldest daughter is the Class of 2020 at McMaster University and my third daughter is the Class of 2020 at Uxbridge Secondary School. 2.6 billion people in our world are facing some kind of lockdown. The impact ...of this lockdown on us is immeasurable and involves the loss of so many things: normalcy, safety, connectivity, jobs, income, graduations, proms, weddings, and the loss of loved ones. Our world has lost so many of our citizens. It may be helpful for all of us to take a moment this week and name what we are feeling. We would like to suggest you consider naming your feelings as GRIEF. See more
