A special thank you to the Village of Valemount Council for authorizing the purchase of new microphones for the Council Chambers. The Mayor, each Councillor, and Staff, now have individual microphones, vastly improving the sound quality for both VCTV's recording and the Village's streaming of the live meetings. Another special thanks to Economic Development Officer, Silvio Gislimberti, and to Chief Financial Officer, Lori McNee, for helping facilitate this, and to Silvio for helping with the installation. VCTV is pleased to present its coverage of the Feb. 9, 2021 meeting of the Village of Valemount Council. Videographer: Michael Peters. Airing Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 8 pm on VCTV Channel 7/653. Uploaded shortly to YouTube.

Radio Service Notice: Some good news for a change! 102.5 FM B-100 from Kamloops is back on the air! We finally got a usable internet signal from the station and it's on the air now. A slight caution, it is running loud at the moment. We couldn't spend much time up there in this frigid cold to normalize it, but will get it to match the same volume as the other stations as soon as it warms up a bit. We'll be monitoring it, but please let us know if you hear any issues with it - other than the loud volume. Our apologies for the delay in getting it back on. Enjoy!

VCTV Programming Note: Check out 3 short NFB music docs on Buffy Ste. Marie, Blue Rodeo, and Leonard Cohen, now showing on VCTV Channel 7/653, daily at 11 am, 6 pm, and 9 pm. Buffy - 2010 - 6 mins. Folk music icon Buffy Sainte-Marie became internationally renowned with her protest song "Universal Soldier." In this short documentary, she candidly discusses her hopes, creative vision and songwriting skills, as well as her role as an Aboriginal activist. Still a vibrant artist f...ifty years into her career, she keeps her eyes set on the future. Blue Rodeo: On the Road - 2014 - 6 mins. This short film pays tribute to beloved Canadian country rock band Blue Rodeo. They've been traveling the highways and back roads of Canada for almost 30 years, bringing their music to audiences far and wide, and building a passionate and dedicated fan base. The expressions on the faces in the crowd say it all: concert-goers are transported to moments in their lives that remain vital in their hearts. Blue Rodeo: On the Road follows this iconic band on the last leg of their 2014 tour, and revisits their early days through found footage. The film captures the essence of a band that is forever moving forwardand always finding inspiration for their songs in the landscapes and people of Canada. Ladies and Gentlemen... Mr. Leonard Cohen - 1965 - 44 mins. This informal black-and-white portrait of Leonard Cohen shows him at age 30 on a visit to his hometown of Montreal, where the poet, novelist and songwriter comes "to renew his neurotic affiliations." He reads his poetry to an enthusiastic crowd, strolls the streets of the city, relaxes in this three-dollar-a-night hotel room and even takes a bath.

VCTV presents more great NFB Canadian history double-feature documentaries this Friday and Saturday. At 9 pm, it's 'Bethune', a biography of Dr. Norman Bethune, the Canadian doctor who served with the loyalists during the Spanish Civil War and with the North Chinese Army during the Sino-Japanese War. In Spain he pioneered the world's first mobile blood-transfusion service; in China his work behind battle lines to save the wounded has made him a legendary figure. At 10 pm, it'...s 'The Days Of Whisky Gap', rousing tales of the North-West Mounted Police brought to life through photos and artists' sketches. In 1873, the North-West Mounted Police were established to maintain law and order in the North-West Territories. They undertook a trek from Fort Dufferin, south of Winnipeg, to Fort Whoop-up, near present-day Lethbridge, Alberta. The force raised the flag and proclaimed the Queen's law, ensuring that the Canadian West would not become a lawless American-style frontier. See more

Wolf and train lovers unite! This Friday & Saturday night, VCTV's great Canadian documentary double features are just for you! At 9 pm, it's 'Cry Of The Wild', about, you guessed it - wolves! And right after at 10:30, it's 'End Of The Line', depicting the end of the steam train era (descriptions below). Get your Canada on! Cry Of The Wild - 1 hr 28 minutes This feature-length documentary from Bill Mason imparts his affection for the big northern timber wolves and the pure-whi...te Arctic wolves. Filmed over three years in the Northwest Territories, British Columbia, the High Arctic and his home near the Gatineau Hills in Quebec, Mason sets out to dispel the myth of the bloodthirsty wolf. Going beyond the wolf's natural habitat, Mason relocated three young wolves to his own property and was able to film tribal customs, mating and birth. As a result, Cry of the Wild offers viewers access to moments in wildlife never before seen on film. The End Of The Line - 29 minutes This documentary short offers a nostalgic look at the steam locomotive as it passes from reality to history. In its heyday, the big smoke-belching steam engine seemed immortal. Now, powerful and efficient diesels are pushing the old coal-burning locomotives to the sidelines, and the lonely echo of their whistles may soon be a thing of the past.

VCTV Service Notice: Some TV channels and radio stations went out this afternoon. The problem was the wet snow from last night turning to slush and sticking to the satellite dish. Should be all back on now. Sorry for the inconvenience. Sort of like the picture, but our dish is larger and has a cover. Doesn't help when there's slush, though. :-(

We had a question from a viewer about TV listings - how to find out what's on VCTV and the 10 digital channels the Valemount Entertainment Society rebroadcasts. Great question! There are now lots of options. The answer for the VCTV listings depends on whether you pick up VCTV over-the-air on an antenna (Channel 7), or watch it on Bell or Telus Satellite (Channel 653). If you get VCTV using an antenna, you'll find a listing of the next five VCTV programs on a program guide rig...ht on VCTV in the Community Bulletin Board. On Bell & Telus, click the "Guide" button on your remote and scroll to Channel 653 to see the list. And lastly, go to our website, http://www.vctv.ca and click on the Program Guide tab for the next two week's worth of VCTV's listings. For the listings of the 10 digital channels, there's a great website that shows the programs at Zap2it.com: http://zap2it.com. You have to set it up to show the local listings the first time you use it, but after that, they'll automatically come up whenever you look at it on the same computer or device. Here's how to set it up: 1. Go to http://zap2it.com 2. Click on the "Change Provider or Time Zone" button located under where it says "Eastern Default Line Up" on the top left of the screen. 3. A new screen will come up (see picture below) called "Find Providers". a) Change it from USA to CAN, then, b) enter our V0E2Z0 postal code, then c) Click the green "Find Providers" button. 4. A list will come up (see picture below). Click on "Valemount Entertainment Society - Digital (Valemount). The list doesn't show anything for VCTV, but it lists the next 3 hours of programs on all the digital channels. You can click the arrow in the upper right for future listings. Knowledge is power. Enjoy!
