Blessed are those who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing. It didn’t look like your typical farmland. Originally a field of snagged trees and boulders, it was declared unsuitable for farming. A little (ok a lot) of research and trial and error proved that Sunset Ridge as we call it has a unique terroir that provides the perfect conditions to grow grapes that produce wine with a unique acidity and minerality. ... The vineyard is planted on a bench that has a South to South West aspect. Soil profile has about 7-8 cms of organic material before giving way to sandy gravel, soils mixed with large stones to a depth of 20 meters before hitting bedrock that is a fine grained alkali feldspar granite with overlying sparse deposits of shale. The soil is rich in potassium and sodium. History suggests that the site was an old river bed. The prevailing winds come from the north east, in the summer, down the Kuskanax Valley across the bench, which gives us excellent airflow through the vineyard. The breeze is like clockwork blowing from about 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM. The moist air from the Kuskanax Creek has a moderating effect on the site in the winter and spring months and is excellent in keeping radiant frosts at bay from the end of April on. #terroir #vineyard #arrowlakes #farm #farmtoglass #kootrocks #nakusp #farmthekootenays #bcwine #kootenays #kootenaywine

Our valley is becoming known as a world class destination for mountain biking and there are boundless opportunities for hiking in this valley, but the main reason we went with the name TRAILHEAD RED for our first red blend, is because the trailhead for the century old Nakusp Hot Springs trail is just minutes from our winery. The trail originated in 1912 and for many decades, local guides, often young women, and including our very own Auntie Peggy, would meet tourists arrivin...g at the port of Nakusp by paddle wheeler and take them by packhorse up this trail to experience the majestic and healing Nakusp Hot Springs. Right now the hot springs is only open for locals, but we hope that when it’s safe to do so, you will come sip, soak, and savour the Valley of the Springs. #sipsoaksavour #valleyofthesprings #nakusp #nakusphotsprings #hikebc #beautifulbc #richhistory #nakusphotspringstrail #kootenays #arrowlakesvalley #trailheadred #bcwine

Valley of the Springs Winery would like to wish a heartfelt Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone in our beautiful village and valley. We have just passed our first anniversary and - oh what a year it has been! We never imagined one of the challenges in our first year of operations would be a global pandemic. We would not have made it here, with our doors open on Christmas Eve, if it wasn’t for many, many wonderful people who worked tirelessly to get us here. A big ...shout out and thanks to Kyle Volansky, Rusty Reimer, Damin Devlin, Jerry Menagre, Gordie Matchett, Simon Bamber, Ulli Mueller, Kristina Mogensen, Heather at Rad Design, Tyler Leeson, Carmen Petrie, Aidan McLaren-Caux, Dakoda Fizzard, our wonderful neighbours, our employers Ken Wanstall at PIPPCO and Collette Martens of the Broadway Deli, all of our pickers (we hope you will come back after picking in the snow this year), and our growers Jerry Botti, Arnold Alstad, Kelly Ross, Dustin Whitecotton and their families. While not local, none of this would be possible without the mentorship and support of Graydon Ratzlaff owner of Recline Ridge Winery, and especially Jaime Flemke our friend and talented winemaker of Recline Ridge Winery and Paul Troop of Salt Spring Island Winery. Many of our biggest supporters do not even drink, yet they give support through sharing our story and pride for this venture, and the opportunities it brings for both the tourism and agriculture industry in our valley. As we look forward to 2021 with positive aspirations, we must also pause and give thanks to those locals (those of you who live here, and those of you who will forever be Nakuspians, no matter what your address is) the idea of supporting local is not a new thing brought on by a pandemic for many of you, and you have shown up for us when we really needed it. We raise our glass to you all - cheers! All the best for 2021, The Scott family

We woke up to big fluffy snowflakes today, but thankfully it stopped so we could pick the Gewürztraminer. #harvestcontinues #bcwine #gewürztraminer #kootenays #nakusp

We are bringing in the Marechal Foch on this cool, crisp sunny day. Snow is in the forecast already, and as our friends at Red Bird Winery said it’s just that kind of year. #bcwine #harvest #kootenays #kootenaywine #nakusp #snowcappedmountains #marechalfoch @redbirdestate

The only feeling greater than the pride a farmer feels at harvest is the joy he feels when he uses science to make his crop into a work of art. #harvest #viticulture #winemaking #winemaker #valleyofthesprings #nakusp #traditionalwinemaking #coferment #vista2020 #siegerrebe #ortega #bcwine #bcwinery #kootenaywine #arrowlakes #kootrocks
