As many of you are already aware due to social media and word of mouth, there has been an outbreak of Equine Herpes Myelitis at a single farm across the border in Quebec. Equine Herpes Myelitis is caused by Equine Herpes Virus-1 (EHV-1). Predominantly this virus causes a respiratory infection but sometimes it causes a deadly vasculitis of the neurological system of horses that can often lead to death. If you routinely vaccinate your horse for rhino/Flu the EHV-1 is covered ...with the vaccines we use. The vaccine protects against the respiratory version of the disease but DOES NOT protect the horse from the neurological form. Bio security is our best defence against this version of EHV-1. We should all be well educated with this due to our own COVID considerations. Washing hands is still important, isolating the sick, minimize horse travel and minimize people travelling to different barns. The farm in question is in isolation. It is not recommended to vaccinate your horse if it has had vaccine for EHV-1 in the last 6 months as over vaccination seems to make them more susceptible to the neurological form. If your horse is due for its annual vaccination this spring, you may choose to get your booster a bit early. Our hope is that vaccination may reduce viral shedding in affected horses and reduce the spread of the disease. See more

With the State of Emergency going into effect on Thursday, January 14th we wanted to post an update to help provide some reassurance and clarity for our clients. Our services will continue to operate as normal we have not been mandated to provide emergency only services. All currently scheduled appointments are still valid, and we encourage clients to continue to keep up with preventative and proactive care. Annual exams and vaccines are very important for your pet’s health..., please do not let these treatments lapse despite the current situation. As we continue to operate with curbside service, please help keep everyone safe by wearing a mask anytime you are interacting with a clinic team member. This includes when approaching the stairs for product pick up if less than 6 feet of distance cannot be maintained you must be masked! Thank you for your continued support. Stay safe!
