** Feeling vulnerable.. Mid day tears as I come off the most amazing birth I’ve ever witnessed. 7 years of this work and I’d thought I’d be a crier during births but it’s only really happened a hand full of times. I had many first as a doula during this one. It’s was my first time supporting a surrogate and my gosh there is nothing more beautiful then watching parents receive a baby they never thought they would have. When you witness love so pure and giving it humbles you. I... felt it in my soul and it was overwhelming. When I had a chance to connect with my client she said weeping I wanted to give up, it felt too hard. I told you I wanted to do it the easy way. And you said there’s nothing to give up. You’re doing it already. Both of us now weeping on the phone. I never try to say to much during births I think of Gloria Lemay saying if you think you said too much at a birth, say less next time or something like that. I find myself always trying to find the right words without saying too much but making sure I sound confident so my birthing people feel confident too. Just trying to convince them that they are in their power right now is a task. Sometimes it resonates. This time it did. This time she believed in herself. I cried because HOLY SHIT something I said changed her mind in that moment. I cried because her strength showed me it was possible for women to overcome fear, trauma, birth their way, to be respected in birth, to feel loved, heard, supported. It’s possible and it gives me hope more birthing people can have these healing experiences.
