#Repost @cityofrichmondyouth Following the signing of several armistices in 1918, the great war (known today as the first world war), came to a close on November 11, 1918 at 11am. The great war stood out from wars prior because of scope and magnitude of the war. The Great War led to the loss of 8.5 million lives.... The following year in 1919, members of the British Commonwealth recognized November 11 as Armistice Day, and later as Remembrance Day. Today in Canada, Remembrance Day is recognized through ceremonies, taking a moment of silence at 11am on November 11, and the wearing of a poppy on our lapels to honour and remember not only those that have sacrificed in the First World War, but to all those who have sacrificed their lives in war throughout our history. This year, although we cannot gather in person, we are still able to wear our poppies, and tune into virtual ceremonies in each of our communities. To attend Richmond’s Remember in Place Ceremony, please visit the link in our bio on November 11 at 10:30am. Sources: John Graham Royde-Smith and Dennis E.Showalter, Encyclopaedia Britanica. Dear members; We are awaiting clarification of exactly what this means Indoor group physical activities can only resume when the business has updated their COVID-19 safety plan and received plan approval from their local Medical Health Officer. ViaSport does not yet have clear information from the Province to help us understand what modifications need to be made to our C-19 Safety Plan and exactly who we send it to for approval. We hope to learn more from ViaSport and BCAS soon. We will update families as soon as we know.

Along with the required wearing of masks, the City’s safety plans and strict protocols will continue to be in place. Some exceptions will be permitted. For more details, visit www.richmond.ca/masks. Our high performance team wiggles and wishes you all a safe Halloween this year As a reminder please skip parties this year. Indoor gatherings, big or small, put people at higher risk of getting COVID-19. Celebrate with your favourite Halloween movie or other traditions that you can do with your household or social group.... If you celebrate with others, keep it within your social group (stick to six). You should know everyone who attends, no plus ones. Follow BC centre for disease control guidelines for safer celebrations. Don’t pass around anything. Be more outside, than inside. Keep your space well-ventilated with windows open. Avoid using props that can cause coughing, such as smoke machines. Be careful with hand sanitizer and open flames - hand sanitizer is very flammable! @cityofrichmondparks @cityofrichmondyouth #richmondbchalloween #sticktosix
