TBT! Taking a look back to 1983 when VCS received a letter from the late mayor of LA, Tom Bradley, congratulating our students for "running around North America." No, our students didn't physically run all the way to L.A., but they did run the distance in the field that year. Our teachers took record of how far they ran and wrote to mayors in the cities that the students would have run through. Mrs. Gonzalez's English studies 12 Q1 class read the novella Wenjack by Joseph Boyden. Their hearts were deeply moved by this story that sheds light onto Canada's dark past towards our First Nations communities. Each student picked a quote that was meaningful to them and artistically interpreted the quote. Here is a sample of some of the fantastic artwork from the class.

Throwback Thursday to the class of 1949! These students attended school in the basement of this house on "Carlton St" (now Killarney). There was only one teacher, and she lived in this house full time. Amazing that this student body would grow to over 800 students in 70 years

Throwback to the time that our students tried to get Queen Elizabeth to visit the school by sending 119 written requests! In 1971, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and Princess Anne visited Vancouver as part of a Royal Tour celebrating B.C.'s centennial. This picture is from an article in the Vancouver Sun (April 20, 1971) where our VCS students posed with a response from Prince Philip to their request for a visit. "Her Majesty was very interested to see the requests from your ...pupils for a royal visit," he wrote to Principal DeVries. They would ultimately decline the invitation due to scheduling constraints. Our HS staff worked hard earlier this year and built all this furniture for our rooftop garden. It was even featured in the CACE (Centre for the Advancement of Christian Education) newsletter! Well done to all the volleyball girls for their perseverance in continuing to work on their skills, constantly masked and maintaining their 2m distance from each other. Their coaches are so proud of their progress and their growth mindset.

The Grade 11 and 12 Leadership students have been supporting the grade 8 PHE students. Today they modelled tremendous effort completing Tabata workouts whilst remaining fully masked throughout. Thank you for your leadership through example!
