"I love science; I love learning how the world works. Even as a child, I was very curious and enjoyed tinkering with things like motors and magnets. One time, i...n my grade 7 physics class, I was very disappointed when the teacher skimmed over some of the experimental material, and I asked her if we could explore it in more depth. But, unfortunately, she wasn’t willing to do that. Despite - or because of - my disappointment, I learned a valuable lesson: it’s important to me that I am passionate about my career, because it will allow me to do better and avoid disappointing those who might depend on my work. Like science in general, big data science sparks my curiosity: it involves problems that need to be explored; there is data to tinker with; and ultimately, you want to find solutions that make a positive difference."
