The story behind Nk'Mip, an Indigenous-owned winery set on a hill in the stunning Okanagan Valley of B.C.'s southern interior. "Now, people come to our reserve. They actually travel from Europe, and Calgary, and Vancouver, specifically to come to our reserve which still sounds kind of weird," says Justin Hall, who many call North America's first Indigenous winemaker.

Best Column. Best Publication. Shortlisted in 2018 Canadian Online Publishing Awards! Congratulations to Sandy Garossino for the Best Column nomination for her ...brave, thorough analysis of the Omar Khadr case that rocked Canada and changed the way people saw this important issue. And congratulations to Team National Observer and all of our subscribers and supporters for creating an outstanding year of excellent Canadian journalism that shone a light on procedural dysfunctions in the Kinder Morgan approval process, covered pipeline demonstrations on a daily basis, featured Canadians grappling with the challenge of climate change, explored innovations in Canada's economy, celebrated successes in First Nations communities in British Columbia, probed into how climate change was impacting the Inuit, and unpacked ongoing issues around spying on citizens, environmental policy, off-shore drilling near protected marine areas, and immigration issues. From Halifax to British Columbia, National Observer reported on stories that just wouldn't have happened without an amazing team and an incredibly supportive community of readers. Thanks to all.
