Vancouver's English Bay Cup (VEBC) 10.02.2021

Hey folks. We hope you are all doing well and staying healthy. We kept waiting and hoping but, unfortunately, the Covid numbers are not going down and there is no vaccine. We have made the decision to not hold our tournament in 2021. We will definitely miss you all and will plan to see you in 2022! ... Take care everyone! VEBC Executive

2020!!!! What happened eh? To all our friends in California, Oregon and Washington ... so sorry to see all the fires! We have had a taste of what you are going through. The pier in New Westminster caught on fire so we've added toxic creosote fumes to the mix. And Covid .... now that's just crazy. Although our numbers are climbing a bit as kids return to school our overall numbers remain low. We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. ... Let 2020 be done!!

Happy Easter everyone. Our hopes that you are doing well and staying healthy. These are difficult times but we're hanging in there. Remember those that may be alone ... each out and give them a call. Take a walk in the sunshine. Definitely keep your distance. This too shall pass.

Hey folks. Thanks to those that turned out tonight at registration. I understand some folks are nervous about coming. We do respect whatever decisions you make about your health. We have just under 100 people coming and we are committed to ensuring you have a great time. We will be disinfecting surfaces at the lanes and promoting 'no touching' of other bowlers. If you check with health resources, hand washing is critical to managing this virus. Unfortunately, due to... our financial commitments, and in accordance with our rules, we are not able to give refunds to anyone who withdraws at this late date. Nancy

We are still a go for the tournament this weekend. Some of you have already made it through the Border - yea!!!! Although large gatherings (>500) are being cancelled, we are not the Juno's or the NHL - we are just a small group of friends getting together for a weekend. We are doing our best to ensure the promotion of hand washing and elbow bumping. ... And we look forward to seeing you!

Hey Folks. We are continuing to monitor the Covid19 situation and referring to the CDC and WHO, as well as our own BC Health Resources. We are committed to proceeding with our tournament. We believe the risks to be less here than perhaps in other areas, and we are quite a small gathering of localized individuals (ie, no one is flying in from China or Iran). People are being diligent in washing their hands and not touching surfaces with their bare hands. We have asked ...the bowling house to apply due diligence with respect to cleaning and we will be there with disinfecting and sanitizing agents. We look forward to seeing you all this weekend.

Hey folks...been getting lots of enquiries about Covid 19 and our upcoming tournament. We believe the risk is very low up here but emphasize due diligence. If you are concerned you can research BC Health Authority. But here's what I've been able to find out: - as of today, Mar 11, there are 46 cases in BC - all but 4 contracted the virus from travelling or reconnecting with family who travelled to either China or Iran... - 1 man died ... he was 80 yrs old in a care facility with previous health complications - 4 have completely recovered and the other 41 are recovering at home in isolation or in hospital Covid 19: - is spread through large droplet transfer from sneezing or coughing What you can do: - wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds - sneeze or cough into your sleeve or elbow - don't shake hands - elbow bump instead Masks don't work to stop the spread of the virus if you are not sick. But using them will deplete supplies for health care workers. So, we again reiterate that we are not overly worried but the choice lies with you. We look forward to seeing you at the tournament. Thank you Nancy

Only a few days away from our tournament. People are asking about Covid 19.... here's some info: The risk in Canada is very low. Since respiratory viruses, such as the one that causes COVID-19, are spread through contact, change your regular greeting. Instead of a handshake, a kiss or a hug, a friendly wave or elbow bump is less likely to expose you to respiratory viruses. Practise frequent hand hygiene and coughing/sneezing etiquette. Clean and disinfect frequently touched... objects and surfaces. And if you are sick, stay home. It's also easy in BC to get tested for Covid 19. Wer look forward to seeing you all soon.
