Rebekka Walker, VSOHA’s Director of Yoga Teacher training, shares her thoughts on the shifting landscape of Yoga, health, and wellness: This spring and summer brought a lot of shifts for all of us, and for VSOHA too! I spent the summer months working to bring forth a re-imagined vision for our Yoga Teacher Training Programs: one that met the high calibre of training for which we are known for, and also kept up with the dynamically shifting landscape of modern yoga. In Octobe...r we launched the first of our newly envisioned Yoga Teacher Trainings, in a blended format, combining in person sessions and live online learning. We are halfway through this sold out program, and the quality of studentship and passion that this cohort are bringing forth in their teaching is amazing! It's a program and updated curriculum fit for the modern era of health and wellness: one which meets the needs of anyone wanting to learn to teach yoga in person and online. As Director of VSOHA's Yoga Teacher Training, this is a vision brought to life that I am so proud of, and would love to share with you in one of our upcoming 2021 programs! https://vsoha.com/programs/yoga-teacher-training/ @

What inspires our team? Here's what Marie Salton has to share about our upcoming offerings: "As the Program Director of the Bodywork Therapy Program one of my biggest tasks is to create the program's schedule. This year I am so pleased with our format! By offering 40% of our program online students can learn from home and avoid a commute. As faculty we'll be upleveling the student's Zoom experience which means the online content will be elevated beyond the capabilities of de...livering the material in-person. We can't wait to share and help you learn!" https://vsoha.com//bodywork-mass/bodywork-therapy-program/

Hello everyone, As many of you are already aware, we have made the tough but necessary decision to close and vacate VSOHA’s current location in Gastown and are exploring options of future space. In the interim, we will be renting some space from our friends at Rhodes Wellness College that will allow us to finish our current programs. We remain optimistic of VSOHA's future and hope to continue to transform lives and grow our beautiful community. We will update you as things progress!

"Americans are usually drawn to yoga as a way to keep fit at first, but the idea behind the physical practice of yoga is to encourage a deeper mind-body awareness," explains New York yoga teacher and author Beryl Bender Birch. "Healing and balancing the physical body helps bring clarity and focus to the mind as well." Initially, the sole purpose of practicing yoga was to experience spiritual enlightenment. In Sanskrit (the ancient language of India), yoga translates as "yoke"... or "union," describing the integration of mind and body to create a greater connection with one's own pure, essential nature. Expressive Arts Therapy was a wide umbrella that allowed all of that to thrive. It also had space for approaching healing in a ceremonial way, through honouring the earth and working with the elements, which was really important to me. Nadine Pluzak, VSOHA graduate, Expressive Arts Therapy Prior to coming to VSOHA, Nadine Pluzak (B.Ed., B.A., RTC Expressive Arts Therapy) was looking for a qualification that wouldn’t limit her interests. She participated in a choir, slam p...oetry, fusion-blues dance, Indigenous dance and ceremony, and traditional Haida basket weaving. Since graduating from our Expressive Arts Therapy course, she’s been hired by the Kwakiutl First Nations as their Community Wellness Worker. We are so honoured to have been part of her journey.
