We have been picking our days wisely and have had a pretty encouraging start to our winter chinook salmon season. We have enjoyed summer like sun and battled t...hrough winter winds over the last few weeks! Been a fun few weeks with some great people. A great weekend with fantastic weather, great guests and some nice fish around. There were a few very good periods of activity. We fished the Gulf Island's an...d locally. The best salmon fishing was in local waters! Spoons and Hootchies did a great job and we did not worry about bait much. Gibbs Delta Tackle Outfitter Skinny, Bon Chovy G Force, Silver Horde and Gold Star Fishing Lures Killy Mcgee and Herring Aide Spoons worked well as did the Glow and Spackleback Yamashita Hootchies. Most of our efforts were spent in the deep water off the South End of Bowen Island. The fish were as shallow as 20 feet and as deep as 150! See more

We are proud members of the "Vancouver Sport Fishing Guides Association". A big part of the association is our Chinook Net Pen Project. Every May, 100,00 Chinoo...k smolts are transferred to a sea pen in Vancouver Harbour from the Capilano Hatchery. These small chinook salmon are fed by our group of volunteers for roughly two weeks before they are set free into the Salish Sea. The idea is to increase survival rates and in turn supplementing sport, first nation and commercial fisheries locally and a far. Adult chinook salmon are also a huge part of our resident Killer Whales diet. These net pen chinook have a tendancy to hold towards Point Atkinson and the Fisheries lab in September before making their way to the Capilano RIver. This net pen project is one of the reasons that local anglers enjoy such a good fall sport fishery for big chinook salmon in Vancouver Harbour and in the Capilano River itself. Over the last few years, a good portion of these fish have had their adipose fins clipped. Please keep your hatchery heads and return to them to a head depot as it helps to monitor the success of this net pen project. Can't often say "The Best Early Salmon Fishing in Years" , but the last week has been just that from Nanaimo down to the Southern tip of Galiano Island.. We ha...ve had some good local trips in Vancouver water's as well. Not sure how long the amazing fishing will continue, but it looks like we are in pretty good shape for May and June!!! If you are looking to get out, booking a full day trip is the way to go.. Our favourite Gibbs Delta Tackle gear has kept the rods bouncing! See more
