Yesterday Tetsunosuke Yasuda Sensei passed away. Nobody knows for sure how old he was but it's likely he was about 94-98 years old. He represents a generation of people that kept Karate alive when it was incredibly difficult to do that. Especially after WW2. He lived his entire life teaching and training a style of Karate called Goju Ryu which means the hard and soft style. It was the first style I ever learnt and one that continues to inspire me to this day. ... We all stand on the shoulders of those who have previously given their lives to continue the knowledge we cherish today. Whether it be modern medicine, or traditional Karate, or plumbing, we are indebted to those who have come before and left their marks on our shared history. Today I will be honoring the memory of Yasuda Sensei in the Dojo classes and feel deeply grateful for people like him who have done so much to assist and encourage humanity to grow and reach for its highest potential. #karate #inspiration #way
Its been a very challenging year for the us all but also definitely for the martial arts. Lucas Sensei has taken some time to train and think and prepare for an upcoming Autumn with continued challenges. However it’s good to remember that nothing lasts forever and we will return to proper training eventually. For now keep your spirits up and never, ever, stop training. #trainforlife #karate #taichi #jujutsu #kobudo #qigong
I am appreciating Jesse’s thoughts and videos more and more. Definitely understand what he’s talking about here. It baffles me that I constantly need to convince and remind grown-ups that A) not only are you capable of doing the techniques I teach you (otherwise I wouldn’t have shown it to you in the first place), and B)you owe it to yourself to train like you deserve nothing but the best results.
Music and martial arts share many interesting similarities and it just so happens that one of the Dojo's own happens to be a very talented singer/songwriter. Have a listen and support a local musician. Congrats on the great tune Sam #music #martialarts #life
One of the advantages of teaching online is that is can be done from anywhere with WIFI. Today Lucas Sensei taught several classes from Vancouver Island where he’s getting some well enjoyed R@R. #onlineclasses #taichi #karate
Did you know Lucas Sensei is teaching online Tai Chi classes for the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. These classes teach traditional Tai Chi and are accessible for anyone of any age or skill level. Please message us for more information or visit the Gardens Website here: https://vancouverchinesegarden.com/wellness-at-home/ #drsunyatsenclassicalchinesegarden #taichi #onlineclasses
This little space in the park we are currently training in is just perfect for practicing martial arts. It’s quiet and the trees give us some cover. In the old days training was often done outside near big trees. A real silver lining to the current situation in the world. #trainforlife #outdoors #freshair
Due to the social spacing restructions we are all working with the Dojo has been training outside and working a lot of Bo Staffs. Like open-hand Kata the weapons Kata teach so much in such a small set of movememts. It's always remarkable to explore. #gratitude #kata #staff
Having to train classes outside lately had been quite enjoyable so far. It gives us a chance to work on Staff Weapons. Both Jo and Bo staff are fantastic and functional tools for all martial artists to use. #staffweapon #kobudo #kata
As we all know the martial arts have had to make some serious adjustments to how training is done because of the current situation. Today Lucas Sensei and his teacher Mortley Sensei discussed a reopening plan for the our organization. Details will be forthcoming. We will adjust and keep going. #nevergiveup #dojo #fortitude
