Feeling cute, might delete later.....IDK. #vancouverupholstery
Going back to my old school roots. #vancouverupholstery
I’m really upset with the person that last upholstered this. I’m lost for words, like what am I even looking at here?
I used to work for a high end manufacturer. We’re talking 15-$20k for some sectional sofas. The owner used to get passive aggressive when taking my time with a dust cover but I didn’t care. If a customer sees the underneath I want it to look clean. If any furniture came back I could always tell right away it wasn’t mine. #vancouverupholstery
Cleaned up this cute little rocker. I like to call these a Teddy Bear Chair. #vancouverupholstery
One cut and a few tough bends later. #vancouverupholstery @ Arts Factory Society
Pulling staples ain’t easy. Upholsters life. #vancouverupholstery
4 matching chairs with 4 sets of not matching, messed up or just plain old broken springs. I’m in for an inventive day. . #vancouverupholstery.
Nay to YAY! #vancouverupholstery @ Arts Factory Society
I think this counts as a Sunday Funday #vancouverupholstery
This almost took the same amount of fabric as a small couch! #vancouverupholstery
Love me a good pattern match. #vancouverupholstery
Never in my life have I sewn a zipper as awkward as this one #notforweakfingers #vancouverupholstery
Got asked to fit a simple plywood seat into the open space but I don’t think giving them back with bare wood will suffice. A light grey primer under a dark varnish worked really well. #vancouverupholstery
Once in a while this rather expensive machine comes in handy. #vancouverupholstery
Two sets of twins this week. #vancouverupholstery
Don’t skip the fine details: Untrimmed work, no ties on the springs, clips installed incorrect, fabric’s raw edge exposed, piping is sloppy, messy stapling. #vancouverupholstery @ Arts Factory Society
One of my favourite thing in upholstery is doing an old fashion hidden stitch. It was something my dad was incredible at and this always reminds me of him. It’s oddly comforting to reminisce about him showing me the proper way every time I do this stitching. #vancouverupholstery
I always find the end results of these little swivel chairs satisfying. #vancouverupholstery
Scientific seating?
Fabric arrived late. Cuddle chair all fixed up and ready to go home. #maxwellfabrics #vancouverupholstery
I was excitedly waiting to redo this old cuddle chair. Been awhile since I’ve had something unusual and interesting to work on. #vancouverupholstery
I see this was reupholstered once. They just clipped some pink velvet onto the old rotting stuff and covered that right up. Meanwhile everything else is now coming apart inside. Thanks stranger... #vancouverupholstery
Didn’t expect to find this fix inside a 100 year old chair. #vancouverupholstery
Love these timeless pieces. Can I keep it? #vancouverupholstery
Found the picture of me with my two first start to finish chairs at my Dads shop #vancouverupholstery
White fabrics look nice and require a little extra preparation. As good a reason as any to clean up some shop tools. #vancouverupholstery
I don’t even know what to say...T-nuts are not washers? How did this even stay together for so long. #vancouverupholstery
match & pin, match & pin, match & pin......sew sew sew sew........
This chair was done 25-ish years ago by my Dad. He was always passionate with each upholstery job. Every project he had shows his attention to details, it was second to none. It’s a somber feeing to know I’ll be reupholstering his work for my first time.
I’d like to thank the handsome young upholsterer that upholstered this before me. If not for you these stripes would have been extra tough. #vancouverupholstery @ East Vancouver
Dad’s shop did everything old fashioned. This white cotton lining is to make future reupholstery easier. I never considered It would be my future self getting the curtesy! #vancouverupholstery
Did these around 22 years ago. The first chairs I ever cut, sewed and upholstered alone. The one on the right was also a bare frame. I’ll never forget the feeling when my Dad told me I better not screw up; that fabric was the most expensive he’d ever sold. Thanks Dad!
This couch is going to travel the word featured in a stage production. New Zealand likely wouldn’t approve old hay and hair stuffing coming in. #vancouverupholstery #artsfactory
This is for all the all the folks sitting on a vintage chair/couch thinking my foam is fine. This is what that foam is looking like. #vancouverupholstery
50 blind tufts later. Gorgeous couch w/chaise. Cost was less than new and done better! #vancouverupholstery #maxwellfabrics
Making 36 holes for 36 blind tufts. #vancouverupholstery .
Early process towards sewing blind tufts. #vancouverupholstery
An example of foam used on a $3000.00 couch bought only few years ago. New doesn’t mean better. #vancouverupholstery
Operation modernize was a success(before and after). Nice clean lines and thicker cushions make a comfier feel. #maxwellfabrics #vancouverupholstery #artsfactory
Been a while since I’ve had an interesting project. Modernizing this 1950’s love seat to complement their current space #vancouverupholstery #artsfactory #falsecreekflats #eastvan
I alway enjoy interesting projects. Made these custom embroidered sleeves for the Vancouver Whitecaps training facility at UBC #vancouverupholstery
In my mind taking the time to do things proper will always brings great results. #vancouverupholstery.
Danish oiled and waxed. Installed the proper pirelli seat webbing with all new loop springs for the back. I don’t want to give this chair frame back. #vancouverupholstery
All I did was remove 4 screws. 100% was not expecting the chair to break down into a convenient pile. Oops?#vancouverupholstery
I’ll never tire of restoring beat up MCM frames. Or stop being jealous of the owner. #vancouverupholstery
I’ll never forget these sayings: haste makes waste and measure twice, cut once. Not much left from the 8.5 yard roll. I sure hope I didn’t miss cut anything. Haha
I hate to admit it, changing this chair and it’s sister’s was far more difficult than I imagined. Blood, sweat and tears was literally spent doing this. #vancouverupholstery
This couch would have looked so much better had they put the fabric on in the correct direction. Flowers grow up not down.
Absolutely love this fabric. Suits this vintage Flexsteel sofa perfectly. #vancouverupholstery
1960’s Flexsteel swivel chair con’t. Last few stages of completion. #vancouverupholstery
I was alway told cardboard was a terrible upholstery support material. People tend put their knees into it when moving a chair and it dents in. #vancouverupholstery
Vintage Flexsteel swivel chair in it’s various stages. #vancouverupholstery
Locally made chair by Cycil G Burch LTD. There's a matching chair and couch too. These would have made in Vancouver along the 300 block of West 4th sometime between 1952 and the late 1960's #vancouverupholstery
French Stitching and Decorative Nails for miles on this sectional. Not to mention the 9 cow hides.
I like this skirts style much more than the ruffles. #vancouverupholstery
10 years ago my father and I found this chair on the side of the road. We reupholstered it and gave it to old family friend. She never had the heart to tell him she hated the skirt he had proudly made special for her.
Six of eight complete. The others have no material yet. #vancouverupholstery #maxwellfabrics sitting pretty
Haven't had anything truly unique for a while. Gorgeous Victorian chairs with Balloon backs being redone.
Arms on the CORRECT way, wood cleaned and oiled with new fabric. I don't know how the arms were reassembled backwards. There's no reasonable explanation to bend all the brackets putting it back together. #vancouverupholstery
I love the simple lines of this Yngve Ekström chair. Bonus points of you can tell me what is wrong with it (other than needing upholstery)#vancouverupholstery
Um, screwing the clips upside down in a attempted repair is not proper or recommended. Don't do this at home kids. #vancouverupholstery
Lovely down couch cushions from Ikea. These are only 7 years old and the ticking inserts are already deteriorated. #vancouverupholstery
For the love of....... #vancouverupholstery
Sickness and moving only put me two weeks behind. Finally onto this three piece sectional. #vancouverupholstery
My new shop mate, Needy Edie.
Another late night work weekend. Setting up a new space = exciting and tiring. #vancouverupholstery
Having fresh new edges and stitched top is oddly satisfying. #vancouverupholstery
No, just don't ever do this. Angle brackets are not for loose chair frames.
