The Vanderhoof RCMP has started to leave business cards in the doors or windows of local businesses that they have checked on during the course of their patrols. These cards are simply to notify the business owner that a police officer stopped by to ensure the exterior of their business was secure after normal business hours and will state the date and time that police were there. If you have any questions with regards to this initiative, please do not hesitate to call the detachment at 250-567-2222.

With bear activity increasing before winter, RCMP and Conservation officers would like to remind the public that it is residents responsibility to secure their attractants. Bears always have and always will move through the green spaces of our communities on a regular basis. However, a risk to public safety occurs when these bears obtain and become accustomed to rewards from high value non-natural food sources such as bird feeders, garbage and apples. Unfortunately, Conserva...tion Officers have already had to euthanize three food-conditioned bears in the community this fall. In order to ensure public safety Officers have been and will continue to conduct attractant audits in the community, with fines under the Wildlife Act beginning at $230. Please remember to secure garbage in a shed or with a ratchet strap, pick fruit trees and keep all bird feeders down until the winter months.

Children across British Columbia return to school this month. Whether you are parent, teacher or motorist, we all have a key role to play in ensuring our kids head back to school safely. #backtoschool
