Did you know that in addition to serving our clients directly through our distribution locations, we also support 84 (and counting) Community Agency Partners in the City of Vancouver, City of Burnaby, City of New Westminster, and City of North Vancouver who in turn provide food to thousands of people each week? To increase our partners’ capacity, we have provided 16 partners with either food for up to 450 people/week, or refrigeration equipment, or BOTH! We’re also in the pro...cess of bringing more partners to this Community Capacity Program this year. In October, we supported 6,000 people directly, and around 15,000 people through our agency partners. That is more than the full capacity of Rogers Arena! Announcing our brand new children's program created just for children age 6 to 12 - The Grade Schooler Pack! This is one of the three specialized monthly children's programs we offer to our clients. The Grade Schooler Pack provides a well-rounded nutritious mix of proteins, grains, dairy, and fresh produce. They receive our Grade Schooler pack in addition to their weekly allotment of food based on the number of people in their household. Saige Community Food Bank & Kitchen provide a no-barrier access to food for transgender and gender non-conforming or queer individuals. They stopped by our Food Bank earlier this month to pick up their special request order. Some of the items they received included diapers, toiletries, beans and legumes, cooking supplies, frozen meats and more. ... Thanks to your support, they were able to pick up a total of 857 lbs of much needed supplies to run their community kitchen!

Just a reminder that some of our locations are changing for the upcoming months! Starting October 6th, 1428 Charles St. in Vancouver will be our primary Vancouver distribution location until our new space in Vancouver is ready for us to move in. Secondly, with winter approaching as we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, the North Shore Neighbourhood House is going to take over the distribution of food from the GVFB on Wednesdays. Starting Wednesday, October 14th, th...e NSNH will be distributing GVFB food hampers to those in need of food support from 1pm to 6pm onsite. The City of Burnaby - Local Government has been doing some roadwork on Winston St. for the month of September. This resulted in a decrease in parking spots for Food Bank staff, volunteers, and clients. Luckily, we’ve got some pretty awesome neighbours to make it work! Thanks to Cloverdale Paint, Interstyle Tile and Costco Wholesale Canada at Brighton for providing our clients with additional parking spots.

Attention meatloaf lovers! In July, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, visited La Tablée des Chefs where she highlighted a contribution of $800,000 the Government of Canada has made to the organization through the Local Food Infrastructure Fund emergency funding. Some of the funding will be use by the chefs to provide ingredients for the culinary team at Rogers Arena to make meatloaf meals. The goal is to donate 100,000 frozen meatloaf meals to the GVFB in the next couple of months. We received the first delivery of the meatloaf meals last week and we can’t wait to distribute it to our clients soon!

Pleasant Community Centre is resuming their regular programs and needs their gymnasium back.
