After temporary closures due to COVID-19, visa application centres (VACs) in India are offering limited biometrics appointments for specific, eligible clients. With significant demand in India, those who... are coming to Canada to permanently reunite with family, and those who are coming to study at one of the approved designated learning institutions (DLIs), are being prioritized. Clients in India who are applying for a study permit and plan to study at one of the approved DLIs in Canada, or are applying for permanent residence in the family class as a spouse, partner or dependent child, can now book an appointment to enrol their biometrics at any VAC in India, namely the VACs in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad Jalandhar, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune. To book an appointment, clients must complete the online web form on the VAC website in advance and wait for the VAC to confirm the appointment by email. At this time, clients in India cannot submit paper applications at VACs or enrol their biometrics for an application other than for a study permit or permanent residence as a spouse, partner or dependent child under the family class. For those looking to submit their passport, a 2-way courier service is offered. Please check the VACs website for further details. Students wishing to enter Canada must (a) have a valid study permit or a letter of introduction that shows they were approved for a study permit (b) be attending a DLI with a COVID-19 readiness plan approved by the province or territory where the DLI is located, as listed on IRCC’s website. October 5, 2020OttawaThe Honourable Marco E. L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, today announced details for the opening of the 2020 Parents and Grandparents (PGP) Program, building further on the government’s commitment to reuniting families. Over a 3-week period, from 12 p.m. EDT on October 13, 2020, to 12 p.m. EST on November 3, 2020, Canadians and permanent residents who wish to sponsor their parents and grandparents to come to Canada will h...ave an opportunity to submit an interest to sponsor form online. In order to ensure a fair, transparent and equal opportunity for applicants, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will randomly select potential sponsors and send them an invitation to submit an application. Selected applicants will have 60 days to submit their application. Accommodation is available to persons with disabilities who are unable to use the online form. They can request the interest to sponsor form in an alternative format (paper copy, Braille or large print) by contacting the IRCC Client Support Centre at 1-888-242-2100 or by email until November 3, 2020. Given that many sponsors may have been financially impacted by the exceptional circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, IRCC is introducing a temporary public policy that will reduce the income requirement for the 2020 tax year to the minimum necessary income, instead of the minimum necessary income plus 30%. The government knows how important it is for families to be together, particularly during difficult times. The launch of the 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program builds on the government’s initiatives to prioritize the approval of 49,000 family sponsorship applications by December 31, 2020, as well as last week’s announcement of a process to reunite more families and approve compassionate cases within the current border restrictions. A maximum of 10,000 applications will be accepted for processing as part of the 2020 PGP intake. With the Government of Canada announcing further public health protections at the border, processes are being introduced to support enhanced family reunification, entry for compassionate reasons, and the safe and gradual entry of some international students. The Government of Canada is deploying additional public health officers to ports of entry and strengthening quarantine monitoring to aid in the fight against the spread of #COVID19. Certain extended family members of Can...adian citizens and Canadian permanent residents will be eligible to travel to Canada. This includes people in a long-term exclusive relationship and their dependent children, adult children, grandchildren, siblings and grandparents. Detailed information for extended family members, including the process and requirements, will be on the IRCC website on October 8. Travellers should not make any travel plans until this information is available and they’ve received proper authorization. Foreign nationals travelling for compassionate reasons, such as a life-threatening illness, critical injury or death, will be eligible to enter Canada with limited exemptions from quarantine, subject to the approval of the provincial or territorial government. On October 8, information on how foreign nationals can request entry to Canada with limited exemptions from mandatory quarantine for compassionate reasons will be available on the Public Health Agency of Canada website. Updated travel restrictions will take effect on October 20, 2020, to allow the entry of international students to Canada if they will be attending a designated learning institution with a #COVID19 readiness plan approved by their provincial or territorial government. Reminder that all travellers must have a plan to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Canada, unless they’re exempt. Update: Masters Graduate stream-Ontario On September 29, 2020, the Masters Graduate stream successfully opened, and closed when the internal registration limit of 1,215 was met. The stream is now closed and no additional registrations for this stream will be accepted. Demand for the OINP is high, and Ontario continuously balances intake across its streams. This includes strategically managing application intake to ensure that the program is meeting the needs of employers and... filling specific labour market gaps across Ontario.
