There is one last tour available to watch!
We did it! We said goodbye! All of our feed has been loaded on trucks and delivered to other farms! Its a great feeling to see the truck drive off, because that means all the full-time tractor/field work that David puts in, is coming to an end. He gets to spend time at home, meeting other farmers, work on maintenance, planning any Spring field work....and maybe some fishing for the next little bit.
Where did August go?!? We managed to do another cut of alfalfa, baled it and sent it to a dairy farm. Afterwards, David found another farmer wanting to try making silage bales. I wasn't too sure what to expect...the closest explanation David was able to give me was "remember when we pass all those marshmallows in the fields? Those are silage bales."... Instead of making "marshmallows", they had a tube liner, in which it wraps all the bales in a single tube. David even manage to curve around the driveway...score!
Second cut has started! David has patiently waited the 28 days to see if the fields were ready. With the heat and the sporadic rain we've been having......it is! We measure the height of the field by using David's leg... He claims its 18" at the knee, 3 feet at the waist.
Field day!! First time back at the alfalfa field after it was cut. David is pretty excited as the regrowth has started. I'm amazed we didn't somehow kill it....I mean, all of my expensive house plants have died so far. Fingers crossed for another couple years of harvest left in this field!
