Gosh, we miss sending our Variety families to fun-filled events throughout the year! Reminiscing about Bomber games, Jets game, Rainbow Stage, and the Assiniboine Park Zoo’s Wildest Dreams event. We are so hopeful that we can once again work with our partners to send families to these magical events again later this year.

Here's an extra reason to smile this Friday morning! Three-year-old Myesha is living with Rett Syndrome. She has delayed gross motor skills and low muscle tone because of her condition. Myesha desperately needed regular physiotherapy sessions to work on her ability to stand and use her pommel walker. She needed help learning how to transition from lying down to sitting and sitting to standing. Her parents are not able to afford the cost of physiotherapy sessions, and, because of this, Myesha was only seeing her publicly funded physiotherapist once every 6 weeks. Thanks to generous donors like you, through our program, Myesha now has access to weekly physiotherapy sessions at her home and is making improvements already! Five-year-old Davian is living with autism. During his sessions, Davian's Behavior Analyst uses pictures, scenes, and videos to help teach Davian various concepts including social language and interactions, vocabulary, and play skills. In order for Davian to work on these skills outside of therapy, access to his own device is extremely important. An iPad used for therapy purposes can store learning videos and applications that will help support the development of language and social skills for children living with autism. Autumn is a bright, energetic, and social child whose life was significantly disrupted by COVID-19. Her family sent us the following letter about how COVID-19 has impacted her learning and how the iPad Autumn received as a result of YOUR generous donations has helped her stay on track. Autumn worked so hard when she had to switch to online schooling. In speaking with her teachers and therapists they believed an iPad would be a wonderful tool to assist with the development of... a variety of skills including reading, math, and other activities based on applications recommended by her support team. An iPad would also help centralize the many resources Autumn uses to learn. For instance, we can use the online education platform, Seesaw, if there is another distance learning period. Autumn has been using a set up at our home that doesn't work for her development stage and learning needs. We are worried about the impact of this pandemic on Autumn’s educational outcomes. Having access to this iPad and apps will ensure she doesn’t fall behind with the uncertainty of COVID-19. Plus, it will enable her to practice her reading and math throughout the summer months. Aubrielle has always loved animals. This year she was able to go horseback riding for the first time and had the opportunity to see some newborn kittens. Aubrielle is living with autism and ADHD. Her parents have been trying to cover the cost of private therapies for Aubrielle for that last couple of years but have recently started struggling as Aubrielle’s brother was also diagnosed with autism. Aubrielle is still experiencing difficulties that make life at school and home c...hallenging. She has trouble reading and writing, she isn’t sure how to interact with others at school and she struggles to listen and pay attention to directions. Regular ABA Therapy will help Aubrielle to start developing some of these skills. To alleviate some of the financial stress her family has been experiencing, Variety is helping cover the cost of these sessions for the next six months. Six-year-old Arturo moved to Canada three years ago and is living with a severe articulation and phonological language delay. According to his speech and language pathologist, Arturo is highly motivated to communicate however he experiences multiple speech-sounds errors, making him very difficult to understand. These errors impact his ability to share information, talk to his teachers, complete academic tasks, and make friends. He understandably becomes quite frustrated or sa...d when he is not understood.
