Ve'ahavta 30.12.2020

Our 2nd #ThankYou series post goes to our incredible partners! Thank you to all the organizations, agencies, and communities who partnered with us this year. We can't wait to see what we can accomplish together in 2021!

Ve'ahavta 15.12.2020

For the 1st post in our #ThankYou series, we want to recognize our volunteers. During a challenging and unprecedented year, the Ve'ahavta community stepped up in the most incredible way to make a huge difference in the lives of so many people facing homelessness in Toronto. Thank you!

Thank you Untitled Giving Project and the team of our volunteers who spent their day packing and distributing toys to 176 children just in time for the holidays What a beautiful way to spread joy! #toydrive #holiday #toys #volunteer

For the first time ever, Ve’ahavta will be running a second mobile outreach van to keep up with the 92% increase in clients we've seen since the start of #COVID19 The items handed out from the van could be the difference between life and death for someone sleeping outside. Help us deliver life-saving services on the coldest nights of the year veahavta.org/coldnightfund

With shelters, drop in programs, and food banks closed due to #COVID19, the need for Ve'ahavta's services has increased 92% Luckily, Out of the Cold Foundation stepped up when we needed them most. Since November, they have been generously providing us with weekly donations of 5 (!) course meals, snacks, toiletries and essential supplies. We sincerely appreciate the bountiful donations and know that our clients do too!

This week's #MondayMensch shoutout goes to TPM - Toronto Partnership Minyan. Their community wanted to come together, while physically apart, to do something special in service of others. So in their respective homes they got baking! They donated dozens of baked good to Ve'ahavta for our very appreciative clients facing homelessness. What a beautiful way to lift spirits and come together for the greater good. Thank you TPM!! Looking for ways volunteer with your community? Sign up today: veahavta.org/cook-with-veahavta/

This week, Ve'ahavta's Executive Director, Cari Kozierok, met with Israel's Deputy Consul General, Nissan Amdur, to discuss the challenges of homelessness and poverty faced by people in Toronto. We will be exploring ways for Ve'ahavta to share our program expertise with comparable organizations in Israel to facilitate bi-directional information sharing and best practices. Israel in Toronto

As we all head outside to eat and rejoice in our Sukkahs tonight, we will be thinking of the Ve'ahavta community around the city doing the same. Happy Sukkot from our Ve'ahavta family to yours!

Congratulations to Robyn who was nominated by her colleagues as September's Force for Good Award recipient! Robyn Tousson-Segall, Ve'ahavta's Director of People and Culture, embodies this month's award theme: INCLUSIVITY. Robyn lives and breathes this value as a natural part of her DNA and as something she practices with full intention each and every day. She infuses each of her interactions with kindness, compassion, and warmth and ensures that people feel, not just listened to, but also heard. Thank you, Robyn, for being a Force for Good!

We would like to officially welcome Leanne Spier to the Ve'ahavta family! Leanne is joining the Ve'ahavta board of directors with years of experience in financial management and in leadership roles within the Jewish community. The fact that she moved to Toronto in order to be part of a large Jewish community speaks volumes about her spirit, ambition and love of being involved in the broader community. We are thrilled to work with Leanne and grateful benefit from her many talents and expertise!

It makes us smile when the Ve'ahavta community steps up with acts of kindness! When Dr. Mel Tanen & Heather Tanen at Watergarden Dental heard that our outreach van was running low on oral hygiene supplies, they came to us with a huge donation of toothbrushes and toothpaste. We are so thankful to community members who believe that oral health isn't a luxury; it's a right! #MondayMensch
