A Message from Michele & Summer Workshops

Victoria Executive Centre 08.07.2020

Earlier this week award-winning Canadian author Richard Wagamese spoke to 300 people at the Victoria Native Friendship Centre. Richard captivated the audience with the incredible story of how he developed his love of reading, learning, and writing, along with the special place that libraries hold in his heart. Richard Wagamese is described as not only one of Canadas foremost Native authors and storytellers but one of our nations finest writers period. Fellow writer Joseph ...Boyden describes Richard as a "national treasure." The audiences response to Richards presentation on Tuesday night demonstrated the accuracy of the accolades he has received over many years. Richards own story moved the audience from rapt attention to laughter, stunned silence (for some, tears) and finally, to relief as well as happiness for the way his life has turned out. It was an inspiring evening, and the VEC Think...Space is thrilled to be partnering with Richard Wagamese to present a 2.5-day intensive workshop for writers, aspiring writers, and storytellers titled: Writing the Breath: From the Oral Tradition to the Printed Page. Richard will facilitate this workshop from Friday evening, July 8 through Sunday, July 10 at the Victoria Executive Centre. Richard uses a participatory teaching approach that emphasizes a variety of experiential techniques based on First Nations oral storytelling combined with contemporary writing practices. This combination reflects the unique writing formula that he has used in writing 14 publications, including two recent novels: Indian Horse, and Medicine Walk. For more information and to register for Writing the Breath: From the Oral Tradition to the Printed Page, please visit this VEC webpage: www.vecthinkspace.ca//writing-the-breath-from-the-oral-tra

Always, always buy local or commission a local artist to make something for you, your home..etc. Everyone gains so much more. Having a vibrant healthy wealthy local economy is the goal. Local buying helps farmers, shops, home based businesses and all of us in the end.
