Just posted by the City of Morden: "On behalf of the city of Morden we are announcing that as of October 30, 2019, Morenet will be ceasing all operations. After examining the technical viability, costs, regulatory requirements, and associated risks we did not feel that as a long-term solution Morenet would be a fit for the City of Morden to operate as a public entity, particularly as the city continues to grow. The city of Morden will continue to explore opportunities to recu...perate or redirect the initial investment to maximize the connectivity of city-owned buildings and facilities so we can continue to provide efficient public services. Effective immediately, there will be no new Morenet connections and all existing connections will cease functioning as of October 30, 2019. The city of Morden has had extensive conversations with technical experts throughout this process to help determine what our options were and what would be best for our citizens. Morden City Council remains committed to ensuring that citizens have access to high-speed internet and will continue to seek out options to that end. We want to thank the people of Morden for their patience throughout this time and ask that if you have further questions please pick up an FAQ sheet at the Civic Centre or check here at mordenmb.com/morenet for up to date information."

As well, we will still help others where we can and also service any resident for any future networking or security needs. Please reach out to us at 204-822-4000 Jeff

Please click " include original post" when you share otherwise the body of the message will not show up in the share to your friends and family. I want to be un...biased but many will think otherwise since I am a contractor for Morenet.. BUT . what the hell let us do this anyways.. To start, Morenets infrastructure is sound and stable, there is no doubt about it. On the subject of variable transmission speeds, the speed your residence will receive is dependent on various environmental and structural variables that can drastically reduce your potential to receive the advertised speeds. Many residents that have been hooked up have experienced this first hand and those who do not have Morenet yet will find this out after an initial consultation. Contrary to the City of Morden 2018 Corporate Plan there's blatant lack of accountability, integrity & respect to the tax payers and there's no transparency from the City council in regards to the direction they're taking with Morenet. Facebook posts from the Mayor that they’re still working on it and posts a news release that they’re working on it is not acceptable. Morenet is a City service and paid for by the residents of Morden and as such should be treated as a necessity as it’s a cost effective public service. The lack of response from the City pertaining to the continuation of Morenet places many families who are financially strapped into a situation of over paying for internet services. Now, if I’m on the wrong path here or am ASS-uming that Morenet is not as cost effective as it’s printed in the Corporate Plan, please enlighten with actual numbers. There were some interesting categories in the 2018-2022 City of Morden Corporate Plan that I found very contrary to the way the council represents themselves (see link): mordenmb.com/wp-content/uploads//04/2018-Corporate-Plan.pdf (L)eading Change: We are leaders of change by providing an environment that is progressive, creative and innovative. (I)ntegrity: We adhere to moral and ethical principles, we say what we mean, and mean what we say. (A)ccountability: We are accountable in all our dealings. Our actions and our words will serve the Community. (R)espect: We actively listen to our community, stakeholders and our staff, to understand their positions The acronym LIAR pretty much sums up the corporate plan set out by the City IMO. Furthermore, on the bottom of page 12, there is the 5 year investment to Morenet in the sum of 1.54 million. What and where did these funds come from? How were the calculations calculated for the numbers that were printed in the corporate plan? What becomes of the allocated funds for Morenet? With only $ 420,000 that has been used as printed on the corporate plan for 2018, what about the $ 440,000 for 2019? Since no connections were performed for 2019, the allocations of funds are where? In conclusion, please don't pull a Trudeau (NOT AS ADVERTISED) and tap dance around the question....... answer the question What is happening with Morenet? Please share this post with any Morden tax payer that is fed up with inaction and wants an actual answer.

Decision to be made soon according to Mayor Brandon Burley: "During Morden's 2019 Budget presentation, concerns were brought forward by residents on the status of Morden's Internet service. The city had budgeted MoreNet for $815,000, meaning the project would have an estimated total investment cost of $1.2 million.... With the project facing numerous hurdles and several delays, Council performed a cost-benefit analysis on MoreNet, saying it would take some time to come to a proper consensus on the Internet service's viability, and was supposed to only take a few weeks. "Good things take time, and this is no exception," says Morden Mayor Brandon Burley. "We've been working as hard as we can. The city manager was gone for a week to the FCMI, so it has dragged itself out, but we're very close to a resolution." Burley adds the number presented in the budget is based on borrowing, and a by-law would need to be set to use those numbers."

Morenet is performing a City wide update on Morenet. This has taken them longer than expected. Please go to: https://morenet.ca/updates/ After the system has been updated, please power cycle your POE injector ( See image in post ):... If you notice reduced service for some reason, a simple power cycle of the Morenet Radio will fix this. The Morenet Radio power supply is the white or black brick with the two cables: Simply disconnect the brick from the power outlet for a few seconds and plug it in again to restore service. Full instructions found on the Morenet Support page.

Did you know you can have faster internet speeds Your internet speeds are greatly reduced when you have multiple connections to your router-board or modem. This means if you share your computer, gaming system, wifi, printer, laptop, etc on your network, it will split the bandwidth between all the hardwired connections as well as any wifi connections. The wifi bandwidth will further diminish the overall bandwidth as more laptops, phones, tablets, etc are connected to the net...work but it splits the already split signal multiple ways. A simple solution to this is to add an unmanaged switch to the network. In my honest opinion, this is a necessity to ensure proper bandwidth allocations and to ensure bandwidth speeds are sustained to all connected devices. You see, the switch clones the signal coming from the Morenet router-board and replicates this to all connected devices so that each device receives the same speed as opposed to sharing a signal. For example, if the input signal from Morenet is 100 mbs then all devices hardwired into the switch will receive a 100 mbs. The signal that will come from the switch going into the wifi access point or wifi router will also be the same except that all connected wireless devices will split this signal. For example, if the input signal is 100 mb and there’s one wireless device, the single device will get the full bandwidth. Now, if there’s 3 devices on the wireless network, you will split the 100 mbs between the 3 devices. Hope this makes sense and we currently have multiple switches in stock for various applications for both residential and commercial applications. Please share this information with others and if you require more information please call, email, PM or text us. Happy networking and cheers.
