The inspiration came from our annual fan favourite The Nutcracker. This led us to find a single origin microlot that would give similar tasty and delicious notes. Dialing in a coffee roast for a new bean is a process. We're dialing in for a new coffee that will be our coffee of the month for January. We've had wonderful feedback on The Nutcracker this holiday season and thanks to all who tried, enjoyed, and gave their feedback. ... So this new seasonal feature coffee will be a little more developed in roast depth towards medium-dark. On our second round of trials we got some interesting tasting notes: toasted marshmallow, and chocolate truffle. It was all smiles in the tasting session! This new coffee is from Papua New Guinea. Look for it in-store and online starting in January. Have a wonderful holiday, take care of yourself, and if possible, someone else.

A coffee that was 3 years in the making... The San Isidro Double Washed is now available for you to enjoy! Over the past 3 years Katia Duke refined the process to bring the double washed process to Central America and really dial it in at her San Isidro farm. ... We're proud to roast Katia's beans as we know she makes an impact in more than just the coffee industry. Katia's hard work in the coffee world has been matched by her work in the local community where she's instrumental in building a new school, and developing a nutritional program. A delicately nuanced coffee with floral aromas... And so, keeping it light preserves the qualities that Katia worked so hard to produce. In tasting sessions we brewed the coffee several ways in addition to the standard cup tasting. As the coffee is delicate and subtle, the tasting notes revealed themselves gradually through lots of excited discussion. The Tasting notes: Floral, Vanilla, black tea, citrus In a french press, a really pleasing balance came out between the fruit notes and the body which became very soft and silky. The surprise for me was an espresso, which was complex and had a syrupy body and a super clean aftertaste. It brought out the vanilla sweetness to the max. Producer Katia Duke has been working on the double washed process for 3 years, and has proven it to be a process that can elevate her coffee.... It's a delicate bean that takes skill to get the most out of when roasting, and I'm really happy with how the roast profile has gone for the San Isidro Double Washed coffee. The Nutcracker 2020 is finally here & available! Every year we create and roast by hand a special blend to echo the flavours of the season spice cake, molasses, and dried fruits. Specialty coffees from Costa Rica, Papua New Guinea and Sumatra bring a world coffee view to this melange. Our target for this coffee is spice cake, molasses and a little lift from some fruity notes.... You can really imagine having this coffee with a slice of pumpkin pie, a sticky toffee pudding, or a little slice of Grandma's fruit cake. That's our aim.
