I wish I had known. I wish I had tested earlier. As the Manager of Health Canada’s National Radon Education and Awareness Program, I speak with Canadians fro...m all over about how radon has impacted their lives and I often hear the words above. Unfortunately, I talk to too many people who have lung cancer, or lost a family member to lung cancer, who never smoked or quit a long time ago. They didn’t know about radon or thought it wasn’t an issue for them. What started out as an interesting job as a public servant doing something that could help improve the health of Canadians, quickly became something more. As I spoke with more and more Canadians about how radon has impacted their lives, this job has become a passion, a hope and conviction that together we can make a difference. Through my work, and the work of our many stakeholders, I can help people see, hear and take action to reduce the incidence of radon-induced lung cancer across Canada. The risk of death from radon-induced lung cancer is equivalent to all accidental deaths combined car and boating accidents, fires, falls, and poisonings. If you put your seatbelt on in your car, if you change the batteries in your smoke detector, if you put a life jacket on your kids in a boat, then why would you not also test the radon level in your home? Testing and reducing your exposure to radon could save your life. ~ Kelley Bush, Health Canada #MyRadonStory #TestYourHome http://www.homeradontest.ca

This week is National Non-Smoking Week. Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer among smokers; radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in Canada... and the leading cause among non-smokers. Here's another reason to quit: if you're a smoker who has been exposed to high levels of radon gas, your chances of developing lung cancer increase significantly. Test your home today. #YouCanQuit #EvictRadon www.evictradon.org

Canada is a radon hotspot because we have a lot of uranium in our soil, putting Canadians at risk for lung cancer. Radon can enter your home at any opening wher...e the house contacts the soil. Have you tested your home for radon? #MyRadonStory #TestYourHome #KnowYourNumber www.homeradontest.ca/ See more

Finished another install. This time in Shellbrook. We service all of Saskatchewan. Levels were around 300-400 while working, down to 42 so far. We also were able to diagnose the customers HRV that wasn’t working and get a part on order.

ACTIVE SOIL DEPRESSURIZATION The most common radon reduction method is called sub-slab depressurization. With this solution a pipe is installed through the basement sub-flooring to an outside wall or up through to the roof line. A small fan is attached which draws the radon from below the house to the outside before it can enter your home. Increasing ventilation and sealing major entry routes can also help reduce radon levels, but their effectiveness will be limited depending on how high the radon level is and the unique characteristics of each home.
