Happy Monday friends, since most of us are doing our best to keep warm, we thought we would bring some spring optimism for our Green Monday showcase. Public Farm 1 - a temporary installation located in Long Island City, New York. Featuring a quarter acre of fully functioning urban farm in the form of a folded plane made of structural cardboard tubes. ... "The project was built of fully recycled materials, powered by solar energy, and irrigated by a rooftop rainwater collection system. The farm actually produced over 50 varieties of organic fruit, vegetables, and herbs that were used by the museum's cafe, served at special events and harvested directly by visitors. Each of these crops was planted in six tubes of varying diameter arrayed around a central tube that was part of the structural support. The columns were also used to house videos about the farms, solar powered fans, and a mobile phone charger." The architects state: "As a live urban farm 'Public Farm 1' was a testament to the possibilities of rural engagement in urban environments and proposed that cities be reinvented to become a more complete and integrated system capable of producing their own food, producing their own power, and reusing their own water while creating new shared spaces for social interaction and public pleasure." We would love to create something similar right here in Saskatoon. How cool would it be to have a temporary public farm like this in the spring and summer months for everyone to enjoy? Say 2022?

Meet Ian Loughran, the owner of Vereco Homes. When Ian was diagnosed with stage four lymphoma in 2005 , he was only given roughly two weeks to live. A comment made by the medical team changed the entire course of his career. ... Now the owner of Vereco Homes in Saskatoon is 16 years cancer-free, Loughran said it was important to make buildings healthy because people spend so much time inside them. So, not only the food and the water you take into your body is important, it’s also the air you breathe and the things around you on a day-to-day basis, he said. To me it’s important to make buildings healthy - houses as well as commercial structures. This has to be one of our favourite entryway’s we’ve designed to date. To the right of the front entry is the kitchen, and to the left is a coat closet and sunroom. The client wanted to create a grand entrance that reflected the architecture of the home through the window design and ceiling vault that runs East to West from the front to the back of the house. We love how this entry design creates a moment of pause as you walk into the space, plus you get the grand view of th...e whole main floor right from the front door.
