UPDATE!!!! Interest in Canadian immigration increased between April and August 2020 As the pandemic progresses, more are reporting increased interest in Canadian immigration according to a new survey.... More people are interested in immigrating to Canada despite the pandemic. Word Education Services (WES) has released its latest survey on how the coronavirus pandemic has changed intentions to immigrate. The credential evaluations provider surveyed thousands of prospective Canadian immigrants, who had applied for WES evaluations between January 2019 and July 2020. There were 27,930 valid responses analyzed for this report. WES reported three key findings: interest in immigration to Canada increased between April and August among prospective immigrants; in the same time frame, the number of respondents planning to delay immigration dropped considerably; and prospective immigrants expect economic conditions in their home country to be worse than in Canada. This is the third report of its kind since the start of the pandemic. The first measured attitudes toward Canadian immigration during the height of the first wave in April. The second looked at comparable data in June. The newly-released survey is a snapshot of attitudes from August. Most of the respondents in this survey, 46 percent, were citizens of India, and another 17 percent were from Nigeria. Philippines citizens and Pakistan citizens comprised of 5 percent and 4 percent of respondents respectively. Lebanon and Bangladesh citizens each comprised 2 percent of respondents and the remaining 25 percent were grouped into other countries. WES used stratified random sampling to conduct the survey. Data were collected between August 17 to 26, 2020. For more information: https://www.cicnews.com//interest-in-canadian-immigration-

UPDATE!!!! Canada extending border closure with U.S. another 30 days This is now the eighth time Canada is extending travel restrictions on U.S. travellers.... The Canada-U.S. border will remain closed until December 21. Both Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Public Safety Minister Bill Blair confirmed the news on Twitter. The new Order in Council is being updated to roll travel restrictions over for another 30 days. U.S. travellers may not come to Canada for tourism, shopping, or entertainment. In order to come to Canada from the U.S., travellers need to be exempt from travel restrictions, or coming for a non-optional, non-discretionary reason. Most travellers must also carry out the mandatory 14-day quarantine period. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, immediate family members, approved permanent residents from the U.S., and work permit holders are among the main exemptions to the travel restrictions. Canada has loosened travel restrictions since they were first implemented in March 2020. As of October, extended family members of Canadians and permanent residents are allowed to cross the border, as long as they are staying for at least 15 days. Extended family includes grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, non-dependent children, and certain dating partners. For more information: https://www.cicnews.com//canada-extending-border-closure-w

Update!!! Canada is processing more spousal immigration applications New IRCC data provides good news to those looking to sponsor their wife, husband, or partner.... Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is now processing more spousal immigration applications following a slowdown at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, Canada was aiming to welcome 70,000 new immigrants under its Spouses, Partners and Children category. Under its new 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan this target will increase to around 80,000 annually moving forward. Most of those welcomed under this category are the wives, husbands, and partners of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who sponsor them. Immigration processing and admissions have slowed due to the pandemic however IRCC made a major announcement in late-September that it would aim to expedite up to 6,000 spousal applications per month between September and December 2020. Are you a Canadian citizen or PR? Complete a free sponsorship assessment form to receive assistance from Attorney Kara Crudo IRCC spousal sponsorship processing has recently doubled New data provided by IRCC to CIC News shows that the number of spousal sponsorship applications that have been finalized by IRCC doubled in September 2020 compared with July. In September, IRCC finalized and decided upon just over 4,000 applications, compared with just under 2,000 in July. Both in-land and overseas applications have seen significant improvements. The number of in-land applications finalized rose to nearly 2,000 in September compared with nearly 1,200 in July. For more information: https://www.cicnews.com//canada-is-processing-more-spousal

Update: 5 good reasons to move to Canada from the U.S. U.S. residents and citizens have over 100 permanent residence pathways to choose from when immigrating to Canada.... Over 10,000 U.S. citizens and residents pivot north every year to settle in Canada through Express Entry. In fact, the U.S. is the second most popular source country among Express Entry immigrants. Between 2017 and 2019, the percentage of Express Entry applicants whose country of residence is the United States almost doubled from 7 per cent to 12 per cent. This is according to the 2019 Express Entry Year-End Report. The report suggests 85 per cent of these immigrants are non-U.S. citizens. Earlier this year, Donald Trump halted immigration into the United States until the end of the year, including issuance of green cards and H1-B visas: the visa issued to foreign high-skilled specialty workers. The Trump administration also recently announced major changes to the H1-B Visa Program, which would potentially make it harder for immigrants to obtain new visas. Employers are now required to pay foreign skilled workers significantly higher wages. This may deter employers from choosing to hire foreign workers and may look within the U.S. With the uncertainty clouding over U.S. residents about their immigration status, it may come as no surprise that many have turned their attention to Canada. Why wouldn’t they? Canada is renowned for being one of the most welcoming countries in the world towards immigrants. The country was built by immigrants, and Canadians do not forget it. Breaking News!!! The Canadian government has just announced that its Visa Application Centres (VACs) in India will resume services tomorrow, on November 20, 2020. In a new tweet, the government stated it will schedule limited biometrics appointments in Delhi, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru.... It will prioritize international students and family class applicants. Resuming biometrics is the last remaining major obstacle for those in India who are exempt from Canada’s coronavirus travel restrictions. While international students have been exempt from Canada’s travel restrictions as of October 20, Indian students who have not submitted biometrics before could not travel to Canada. The same could be said for family class and skilled worker immigrants who are also exempt from the travel restrictions. Now that VACs in India are resuming services, those who are exempt from Canada’s travel restrictions will be able to submit their biometrics so they can complete their immigration application processes in support of their eventual arrival to Canada. The government further included on Twitter that it will not accept walk-in clients at VACs. Rather, appointments must be booked in advance and you can only visit your VAC if you are attending your own scheduled appointment. Breaking News!!! Ontario holds new Tech Draw inviting 772 Express Entry candidates Ontario's new PNP draw targets Express Entry candidates with work experience in one of six tech occupations Ontario held a new Tech Draw on October 15, inviting Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued targeted Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to candidates who may qualify for the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities (H...CP) stream. A total of 772 principal applicants received NOIs from the Tech Draw. Express Entry candidates needed a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score between 462 and 470 in order to be invited. They also needed to have work experience in one of the following occupations: NOC 0213 Computer and information systems managers NOC 2147 Computer engineers NOC 2172 Database analysts and data administrators NOC 2173 Software engineers and designers NOC 2174 Computer programmer and interactive media developers NOC 2175 Web designers and developers Candidates did not need a job offer to receive an invitation, but they needed at least one year of work experience in one of these tech occupations. They also needed to have a profile in the Express Entry system. People who received the NOI from Ontario now have 45 calendar days to submit their application for the provincial nomination. If they are awarded the nomination from Ontario they will automatically get an additional 600 CRS points toward their overall CRS score. This award will ensure that they receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in a subsequent Express Entry draw. This goes for anyone who is nominated under any Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in Canada. This is Ontario’s fourth Tech Draw of the year. The one on July 29 was the biggest Tech Draw so far in 2020, when 1,288 Express Entry candidates were invited to apply for a provincial nomination. How to get invited for an Ontario Tech Draw The first step to become eligible for an invitation through the OINP Tech draw is to create a profile in Canada’s Express Entry system. Express Entry is an application management system for three federal economic-class immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. Ontario’s Human Capital Priority stream recognizes candidates from the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Canadian Experience Class. Express Entry candidates are ranked according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) based on their education, work experience, age, and language proficiency in English or French. The OINP Tech Draws pull from the Express Entry pool of candidates, inviting eligible tech workers to apply for a provincial nomination from Ontario. Once the process is complete, candidates will have the opportunity to settle into their technology careers in Ontario. Information source: https://www.cicnews.com/.../ontario-holds-new-tech-draw... What do you need to be eligible for the PGP 2020? Starting October 13, IRCC will open an application process that will allow up to 10,000 selected candidates to sponsor their parents and grandparents for immigration to Canada. Individuals who wish to submit an online application form to the Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) should first make sure they meet all the eligibility requirements of the program.... Sponsorship applications will be accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) between October 13 and November 3 and are subject to income, age and status requirements. Individuals who wish to bring their parents or grandparents to Canada under the sought-after PGP need to be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or status First Nations. In addition to this requirement, PGP sponsorship applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have the means to support the family member they are sponsoring. Sponsors must also prove that they have sufficient income to support all family members for whom they will be financially responsible, including themselves, once they become sponsors. All applicants are therefore encouraged to check how much money they will need to support the number of people for whom they will be financially responsible before submitting an application to the PGP. Are you eligible for PGP 2020? Complete CanadaVisa’s free eligibility tool! Key eligibility factor for the PGP The Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) is a key eligibility factor for the PGP. This proof of necessary income is only to be provided after interest in sponsorship has been expressed via the online form. However, applicants who are selected and invited to apply and who do not meet the minimum necessary income requirement will see their application refused. Sponsors residing outside of the Canadian province of Quebec who are invited to apply and their co-signers (if applicable) will have to provide Notices of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for each of the three taxation years immediately preceding the date of their application. IRCC has noted that because it will likely receive applications in January and February 2021, sponsors will need to meet income requirements for the 2020, 2019, and 2018 tax years. IRCC says that sponsors can submit their 2020 Notice of Assessment after they have submitted their sponsorship application.
