I sent a route that was challenging for me - 'Scarface' up at Alcatraz Cave here in Canmore. For the last year or so I'd just refer to it as the 10+ a few of my friends had climbed that I flailed on but it felt way out of my league... However, it turns out that the threat of an approaching abdominal surgery is a GREAT bonus motivator ! There is no sugar coating the send. I tried really damn hard. In the last few weeks I had to accept it wouldn't feel comfortable and embrace it. Then it took a couple more days to believe in myself and really give'er. To be blunt, I do not consider climbing upside down with my hands or ice tools a strength of mine so I learned a ton by committing to this one!!! Thanks to Bree that hiked up to support and belay me for 2 consecutive days!! I owe you big time!!! And thank you especially my good friend @huens that has gracefully endured me whinging about this route & provided as ever her solid encouragement and advice. A huge congrats to crusher @andrewtheabel who sent this route too. We made it a team send day! We've gone up there a bunch recently to try this route together so it was really cool that we both did it on the same day . Fitting. Climbing can be in its own way an individual pursuit, yes, but for me it is SO much about my friendships and the people i spend time with when I'm outside. I value this part indescribably more than any climbing project I may complete or not .

The shoulder season is always full of uncertainty. This year however it looks like people are eager to get back on snow after a ski season that was cut way too short last year. This picture represents part of our workload since the week-end. The stoke is high and shared.

We are super happy to announce our re-opening on Thursday, May 14th; it's been almost 2 months to the date that we decided to close our doors in order to help protect our customers, employees and ourselves and to help flatten the curve from that pandemic and we've missed you a whole lot during this time. We want to thank all of you who were able to place orders online or over the phone, it was very appreciated. Note that we have implemented a few preventive measures for those... of you who will come in store to shop: Firstly, everyone entering the premise will have to use the provided hand sanitizer before starting to shop. (Located right by the door, on the wall.) Our change rooms will be made available for trying on pants, jackets and hats. If there's a top you like, we'll ask that you buy it and bring it home to try. If it doesn't fit, we'll gladly take it back and it will be put in "quarantine" in the backstore for 24 hrs before being put back in stock. You will be able to try on shoes, boots, and ski boots. However, we won't provide socks for you to try on footwear at this time. Because it is flip-flop season (Yeah!) make sure you have your own socks when coming in to try on shoes and boots. We will enforce the 2 meter distancing rule for your safety and for our staff and it will also apply at the counter when looking at climbing gear and paying for your purchase. Lastly, we will take extra cleaning measures for highly touch surfaces such as door knobs, debit machine, hand rails, climbing holds and hard goods. If you feel uneasy coming in store, we are still offering curbside pick up and free local delivery as well as free shipping in Alberta and British-Columbia. Hope you are all staying safe and healthy! A little on the heavy side for Monday morning but the line: "it has to start somewhere, it has to start sometimes, what better place than here, what better time than now" seemed appropriate.
