I started Very Good Creative Co. almost 4 years ago. I was 26 at the time and, in hindsight, I wasn’t anywhere near ready to start my own business. What I did know was that whether I started right then or waited till I felt ready, the time would pass either way. I knew that one day, I would either be 30 with no years of entrepreneurship under my belt or I would be 30 with 4 years of entrepreneurship under my belt. I turned 30 last week and I can’t say how thankful I am to hav...e taken the risk and chosen the tougher path. That said, I won’t pretend like I’ve been wildly successful. I’ve been lucky enough to grow the company into a modest 6-figure brand with 50% YoY growth and hit most of the goals I’ve set. However, the business model still has tons of flaws. It’s not scalable. We don’t have good documentation. It wouldn’t survive if I disappeared. We don’t have consistent systems. Our service offerings are too diverse. Prospecting is weak. Internal brand development has slowed with growth. The list goes on. As tough as it is to admit those flaws, I wouldn’t have anything to pick apart if I didn’t take the jump in the first place. So, no matter where you’re at, remember that if there’s something you want to do but you’re worried that you’re not ready yet, the time will pass either way. If you take that jump sooner rather than later, when the time comes that old you thought future you would be ready by, you’ll be so far past what you thought being ready meant that you’ll have the invaluable skill of being able to pick apart everything you’ve done. You’ll be able to truly appreciate that the more you learn the more you realize you don’t know.

I’ll admit, I’m not the best at sharing through teaching. But hot damn, I wouldn’t be surprised if half the followers on this account are here because of that photo.... So I guess this is just to say, don’t be afraid to share your work and give back to the communities that help you in whatever small way you can
