Gord Lehman has been at VETS for 6 years, as both an HVAC Estimator and Purchaser in our Edmonton office. It was a long time in the making, as Gord is officially the person who has wanted to work for VETS the longest! When I was a very small boy, my next door neighbour was a fellow by the name of Lloyd Morris. He worked for this great company called Vet’s Sheet Metal. Sean’s Dad and VETS’ Past President David Rayner was in the office the other day, and I mentioned Lloyd’...s name and his face lit up! David said Lloyd was a close family friend who had worked here for many years. After we spoke for about a half hour, David went home and dug out this photo of him as a child riding bikes with Lloyd back in 1960! The picture on the right is of me and my sister roughly at the same era. Back in the old days what your friend’s Dad did was a really big deal! To me, VETS sounded like this huge outfit like IBM or NASA or something. All that I know is that the name stuck in my head for over 50 years because I always sort of dreamed of working here someday. Fast forward to today and I am finally working for this awesome company, and I couldn’t be happier!" When asked what Gord loves the most about VETS he responded, VETS [has] built this 100 year legacy by means of Honesty and Integrity! The culture that is promoted proves that Good Guys do finish First! I really enjoy my Purchaser role here at VETS because it is very high paced, and it is really rewarding to get our guys in the shop and the field the equipment and materials they need without delays. It makes me feel like I am part of a larger United Team. When Gord isn’t at work he enjoys fly fishing, travel, painting, racing slot cars, and collecting vintage toys. Like many of us in the VETS office, Gord is a dog person - specifically a BIG DOG person! (See what he means below). Thank you for being a part of our 100 year legacy Gord! We’re glad you’re such a integral part of our United Team. #hvac #teamtuesday

Dirty brine is hard on equipment! Our team replaced a leaking brine pump that served the ice plant for the Garrison Curling Club for many years. Part of the upgrade included also installing a proper filtration system to ensure the brine in the system remains as clean as possible. #unitedteam #refrigeration #vetsgroup #beforeandafter

Frostbite is a real concern when working outside especially at the temperatures and wind chill we’ll be seeing over the next few days here in Edmonton. At -27 bare skin can freeze in less than 30 minutes and extremities like fingers, ears and toes are at risk even while covered. Stay safe and bundle up! #splitsecondsaftey #frostbitesafteytips #coldweathersafety #worksafe #hvac... https://www.mayoclinic.org///symptoms-causes/syc-20372656.

Tyler Nichols is a sheet metal journeyman with VETS Facility Services and an enthusiastic member of our Joint Health and Safety Committee. No day is ever the same in his role and Tyler enjoys the variety and challenges. When asked about his favourite project Tyler said, I don’t have a favourite project, but recently I enjoyed the mechanical room renovation at Fort Edmonton Park It was nice to have a clean slate and be able to design the room for the equipment. Out of all th...e VETS’ HONOUR values Tyler identifies with the Ownership Mentality value the most. I’ve always believed in quality over quantity. I take pride in my work and always try to complete an install as if it was my own equipment, explained Tyler. Like many in the VETS office Tyler is a dog person, nothing against cats, he’s just allergic. Outside of work Tyler enjoys spending his free time bouldering (Rock Climbing) or digitally drawing. Thank you for your enthusiasm and the attention to detail you bring to the team Tyler! VETS is lucky to have you! #unitedteam #sheetmetal #refrigeration #facilityservices #hvac #journeyman #teamtuesday

This year, amidst the ongoing pandemic it is now more important than ever to prioritize mental health. Here are 5 simple actions you can take to help prevent suicide: 1. Ask: Asking the question Are you thinking about suicide? communicates that you’re open to speaking about suicide in a non-judgmental and supportive way.... 2. Keep them safe: Once you’ve determined suicide is indeed being talked about, it’s important to find out a few things to establish immediate safety. 3. Be there: This could mean being physically present for someone, speaking with them on the phone, or any other way that shows support. 4. Help them connect: Connect someone with thoughts of suicide with professional supports (Canada Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 833-456-4566) 5. Follow up: After your initial contact with a person experiencing thoughts of suicide, and after you’ve connected them with the immediate support systems they need, make sure to follow-up with them to see how they’re doing. Suicide survivor Kevin Hines shares his inspirational story and reminds us of how simple actions can create change: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGPktsXlhTA #mentalhealth #suicideprevention
