The 38th edition of the Vancouver International Film Festival (September 26 - October 11, 2019) will welcome up to 15 emerging filmmakers to participate in a free Mentorship Program that provides full access to all screenings and conference programming, as well as exclusive creative development opportunities tailored for a diverse cohort. Filmmakers participating in the Mentorship Program will also receive a free one-year Production Membership at Cineworks, which offers disco...unts on facilities and equipment rentals, both at Cineworks and through their partners. Alumni of the Mentorship Program are eligible to have their projects considered by VIFF for nomination for Telefilm’s Talent to Watch program. Congratulations to Film Production alumni Kent Donguines on having the short documentary he produced titled "This Ink Runs Deep" made an official selection of this year's Toronto International Film Festival. Congratulations also go out to the film's associate producer Maxime Beauchamp and producer's assistant Robin Macabulos who are also FP Grads. Excellent work, folks!

Vancouver Film School (VFS) is a designated industry partner in the Telefilm Canada Talent to Watch Program Funding First Feature Film and Web Projects from Emerging Filmmakers. Through this partnership Vancouver Film School is authorized to recommend up to three projects (two feature film and one narrative-based web project) to the Selective Stream of the program each year. For the 2019 competition VFS is accepting submissions between January 1 and January 31, 2019 fro...m graduates who meet the criteria set by telefilm in the guidelines (https://telefilm.ca/en/financing/talent-to-watch). To be considered key members of the project (Producer, Writer and Director) must qualify as emerging talent per guidelines definition be Canadian citizens and the Director must be a graduate of the VFS Film Production Program and must have graduated from that program within five years. The process: Crew your key creative team for a great Canadian Film or Web Series. Assemble a package that contains the information required by the guidelines and upload it to a folder where VFS faculty can access it. Send the information to Robert Woolsey ([email protected]) before the VFS deadline of January 31, 2019. Only complete submissions will be accepted so read the guidelines carefully. A faculty/industry panel will review the submissions with an understanding of the Telefilm evaluation criteria and added focus on three key determining factors. Creative Merit and feasibility of the project. Track record of the creative team. Projects that provide opportunities to qualified VFS alumni from the various VFS programs. They will select a shortlist of projects to receive feedback. Those projects will receive notification on February 6, 2019. VFS will provide feedback to a select number of these projects, encouraging them to update their submissions accordingly with a deadline of February 16, 2019. Telefilm will select projects to receive funding late spring 2019.
