Whoo-hoo! Met the owner off the new pizza restaurant opening soon at The Royal! He says the goal is to open by Nov. 1st. The restaurant will serve Neapolitan-style gourmet pizzas and have a good wine, beer, and spirits list. There will be take-out, but no delivery. He stressed it was not gong to be a "Pizza By The Slice" type operation. He had intended to open May 1st, but COVID gave the bank cold feet until now. Good Luck and welcome to Vic Hill!

Weeks of July 27 and August 4 Fraser Crossing Partners, the contractor who will build the new bridge, will be undertaking some nighttime pavement testing the weeks of July 27 and August 4 as part of the ongoing geotechnical testing program that began in March 2020. These investigations are required within the project area to gather information about the roadway asphalt and to evaluate road base conditions. Last year, Fortis made a presentation to the VHGDRA requesting comment re. the replacement of the gas line from Surrey to New West currently attached to the Pattullo Bridge. The new Pattullo Bridge 's design criteria would not permit a gas line to be included in the new structure. The discussion last year centred on whether to assemble a new gas line on the Surrey side of the river to be drawn under the riverbed to New West or to assemble the new gas line on the New West side... of the river to be drawn under the riverbed to Surrey. Had the New West side been chosen, it would have required closing two lanes of McBride Avenue between Royal and 6th Avenue for about 6 months! The good news for VHGDRA residents is that this new announcement by Fortis proposes another plan, NOT requiring the work to occur on McBride, with a new gas line being built exclusively in Burnaby. The latest information on the PBRP was posted on Wednesday, including project timelines and a number of maps and diagrams showing the changes to road networks and interchanges. Additionally, there is a link to be able to access further updates and other topics of interest in the project. Many of your questions about the project will be answered in this update and the information will also, no doubt, provoke new questions, too. The VHGDRA Executive will be discussing with the... project co-ordinators how to set up a virtual town hall or workshop in the near future (June, we hope).
