Victorian Hospital of Kaslo Auxiliary Society.. Since 1902, the Kaslo hospital auxiliary has been fundraising to purchase equipment for the Kaslo hospital, patient and resident needs. Our mandate, now also includes to support the lifelong health and well-being of our community. As for many, this year, for us has also become problematic. Due to COVID-19 we had to close our thrift store, our main fundraiser, and we are now in the process of improving the inside to compl...y with the new Health Guidelines. We would like to thank CBT, OSPREY, CFNKLS, and many very generous local donors for their financial aid to make thrift store improvements possible. The Council from the Village of Kaslo, has also been very supportive, the thrift store now has sewer and water connection. And thank you to all the volunteers, so many wonderful people who donated their time in getting the thrift store ready for these improvements, their hard work and initiative has been inspiring. Though, for the past seven months our income from the thrift store has stopped, the hospital auxiliary, nevertheless, has continued to provide our monthly financial support for the hospital resident activities; have paid out a bursary to a JVH graduate going into the medical field with plans to return and serve in Kaslo; made several purchases for the hospital; and supported several groups in Kaslo. Through the years the auxiliary has faced many challenges: the depression, two wars, the economy up and down, changes to our health system. In spite of the circumstance, the auxiliary continued to thrive and support the citizens of Kaslo. Currently, none of them are planned for Kaslo or any other rural facility, but the plan is at an early stage. VHKAS Thrift Store Update: !Please Help! on Thursday, Friday, Saturday the Thrift Store will be painted inside and we need volunteers to help with the painting. Annie and her few volunteers have been working their butties off, to make the Thrift Store compliant with the new Health requirements. There is still quite a bit to be done before the store can be opened, but with more volunteers to help Annie, opening date will be that much sooner. Good afternoon, in these uncertain times we have closed the thrift store to help ensure the health and wellbeing of our members and community. We are not taking donations at this time. It was the hospital auxiliaries biggest money maker. We are reaching out to our community at this time to ask for financial donations. These donations will be used to buy much needed items for our hospital and things that support the health and wellbeing of our community. It is a hard time to ask, though if able it is much needed at this time. Thank you, stay well.
