Be in the detachment - of the ever unfolding moment - with ease and grace. Found this girl on the landing board out in temperatures that were quite cold. Her antenna were moving slightly... it could have just been the wind, she may have already been gone. I sat with her a moment. Upon closer inspection I noticed her lack of wings, looked like DWV (Deformed Wing Virus) to me. Did she remove herself from the hive to see the sunlight one last time before her existence in tha...t form was no more? Or was she removed by the hive from her sisters, the mortuary bees, who are tasked with cleaning house and removing the dead from the hive. Only her and her sisters know the answer to my question. Snow has arrived here on the West Coast !! ... The bees are tucked into their hives for the foreseeable future as daytime temperatures are expected to get down as low as -8C next week (17F for my American friends). This is when the worry about food stores starts to set in. When the bees are active, as they have been with our warm winter weather, they break cluster and go out on flights during warm sunny days. The risk of them eating through their winter stores is a cold hard reality
