Still finalizing the numbers, but the Victoria Christmas Bird Count was an outstanding success. Covid rules were followed, areas assigned in advance, results submitted mostly electronically, and post count "gathering" held on Zoom. About 270 people participated, tallying 143 species and more than 90,000 individual birds. A Black Phoebe that has been wintering at Martindale Flats was a first for our count circle. A surprise Townsend's Solitaire was found by the team on Mt. Tolmie and photographed by Liz Cross (below). Full results can be found at http://christmasbirdcount.ca/bcvi/2020prelim.pdf .
