It's okay if the facts around human trafficking make you feel uncomfortable. They make us uncomfortable too - and that's what drives our passion to create this movement and to raise awareness, educate Canadians, and work to eradicate the buying and selling of girls, boys, and children in Canada. The Facts 1) Evidence suggests over 90% of Canada’s trafficking victims come from within Canada’s borders.... 2) Canada has become a hotbed for human sex trafficking of minor-aged children. 60% of all of Canada’s human trafficking can be linked in some way to activities that occur along the 401 corridor. The 401 corridor is considered the ‘gateway’ to communities. In 2016, the rate of human trafficking in Ontario was more than one and a half times the national rate. 3) According to police-reported data collected between 2009 and 2016, 72% of victims of human trafficking were under 25 years of age. 4) In Canada, a 2013 RCMP study reported the victims of all domestic sex trafficking cases prosecuted in Canada between 2007 and 2013 have been female. 5) On February 22, 2019, Human Trafficking Awareness Day, #ProjectONroute was launched, a historic provincial human trafficking awareness campaign. #ProjectONroute was inspired by a 16 year old survivor of sex trafficking who wanted to change the way victims of trafficking were portrayed in the media. In 2020, the campaign expanded across the Nation and rebranded as #ProjectMapleLeaf. Add your voice to ours by joining the #EradicateChallenge. All you have to do is print the sign, and post a photo to your social media channels with the hashtag #EradicateChallenge. Challenge your friends and family to do the same. #EradicateChallenge #projectmapleleaf #ProjectONroute

VON's Bereavement Peer Support Group Mixed loss - is offered bi-weekly. Our next group is Thursday October 1st 2020 from 6:00-8:00 PM (now virtual). It is off...ered to individuals (18+) who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives and are from the Algoma & Manitoulin area. The program is based on a peer support model. Groups are facilitated by Program Coordinator, trained volunteers who have experienced a loss themselves, and special guests or experts in their fields. The program is designed to support bereaved individuals in a group setting by creating a safe space where they can share their stories, explore questions and feelings, and learn healthy coping strategies. All of this takes place in an environment where grief is normalized and individual experiences are validated. Once you are registered, I will send you an encrypted ZOOM invitation. You are able to either telephone in, log in to ZOOM using audio only, or audio and video it will be your choice based on your comfort level.
