Today is Indigenous Veterans Day a day when we remember and honour the Indigenous Veterans who contributed their skills, language and bravery as they fought alongside Canadian soldiers. Take time to read their stories: http://ow.ly/AeaE50CbKuu

Seven Nursing Sisters, Vic High alumni, are represented by white maple leaves on the 100 year old Great War Banner commemorating Vic High students and teachers who served in World War 1. Thankfully the seven all came home. Many of our alumni did not.

Many Vic High students enlisted voluntarily to fight in World War 1. Some never came home. Like Percy Barr. We remember them, we thank their loved ones for enduring the pain of their loss, and we vow to continue creating the peaceful society we all want, to ensure their lives will always make a difference. http://victoriahighandthegreatwar.weebly.com/

Everything in life takes a team. These two wars awakened in many women the realization that they could do and be anything they chose. When pushed to our limits, as we all are during this pandemic, we learn they weren't limits after all. Thank you to the women who served, for your efforts, and your ability to transcend the horrors of war and bear the losses of so many loved ones.

Congrats to these quick-thinking, compassionate Vic High students. Their instincts to do whatever it took helped save the life of a former student. Thanks, too, to staff who stepped in to help. Teamwork. Outstanding.

We'd like a little help. Any alumni out there with general knowledge of databases, or membership programs, or communications platforms who might join a small Task Force to help the alumni association decide on options to update technology platforms? Needed right away. Meetings online over the next month or so. email Linda at [email protected].

Way to go, Vic High! Congrats to all these grads for their hard work. $350k in total offered to VHS grads in 2020, double last year's amount. The Vic High Alumni is proud to provide 17 of the scholarships and bursaries awarded recently to these amazing Vic High students.

Thanks to today's 1968 alumni crew helping pack up the Vic High Great War Banner: L to R: Roger Skillings, Jim & Cathy Crawford, (Jim's Oak Bay but his uncle is Vic High so we let him help...), Reg Dunkley, and 1969 alum Linda Baker. Made in 1920 to honour Vic High students and teachers who served in WW 1, it's one of the VHS Archives' most prized possessions, and often gets hung for Remembrance Day ceremonies at the school.
