Tripleshot CrossFondo! Congratulations to local program athletes and coaches for competing in the Tripleshot CrossFondo bike race last weekend. There were lots of great finishes and podium awards in their age groups. This is Victoria’s only mass participation off-road cycling event for all ages and abilities and winds through flowy pine-needle trails and hairpin turns, over hills, roots and rocks, and churns through chunky peanut butter mud and puddles. Oh, and maybe a few h...ike-a-bike sections to keep it legit. Some of our local participants included Coach Dan Smith (2nd), Cindy Mabee (1st), Lindsey Fraser (3rd), Pat Bryant, Janice Meek (2nd), Will Boothman (4th) 50-59, Brad Spiers (3rd) and others. Sounded like a lot of fun. Congrats!

Dr. Crosby is all smiles after his first Triathlon! Dentist Dr. Trevor Crosby completed his first Triathlon this past summer. Despite all of the races cancelled... this summer, Trevor took part in an unofficial swim-bike-run training race. Before the big day, Trevor got in a few open-water swim lessons from Coach Paul and was ready to take on the challenge. His first race experience was alongside some of Canada’s Junior and National Development team members and many local experienced age-group triathletes. Congrats Trevor! Trevor plans to race at the Victoria Half and Sprint Triathlon next May at Elk Lake.

Adapting wonderfully to the new normal! We’ve implemented some excellent COVID-19 Prevention guidelines that are working very well! Participants are loving having their very own half-lane, yet still being in a structured coached environment. ... Many are even pacing off of each other in lanes beside them (just like they did when they were in the same lane, before COVID). The spirit of the swimmers is high and everyone is excited to have structured fitness back in their life going into the darker, cooler fall. The November/December M/W/F program is sold out, so we’ve added a Tuesday/Thursday for Masters and Swim-Fit it’s almost sold out too! If you are interested please let us know so we can get you in!! You can DM us for more information. We hope to see you there!

Keeping Elk Lake Healthy! Although most people don't realize it, Elk Lake is dying. Elk Lake is the CRD's most utilized park, by far, with over 3 times the users to its next largest park. In fact, Elk Lake is the CRD's second busiest asset in general with over 1 million users per year (second only to Lochside Trail). In 1872, Elk Lake was utilized for the drinking water for Victoria - this went on for quite some time - even as late as 1977. Now the lake has suffered from t...he accumulation of phosphates/sediment and other external factors warming up the water temperature and providing an environment for weeds, non-native fish species and other factors that are reducing the oxygen and killing the lake. Some scientists give the lake 10 years until it is no longer swimmable or can be used for water-based activities. The CRD has been working with local user groups and studying potential remediation solutions. The first step is to circulate oxygen from the bottom to the top to help with the reoxygenation of the water. The CRD had voted to commit $750,000 toward this project if another governmental agency could match it. Pinnacle Fitness Coach, Paul Regensburg, sits as a member of the CRD Elk Lake Advisory Committee, who have been pushing hard for solutions. And asking local politicians for their support. Well, good news! Local longtime MLA of South Saanich, Lana Popham, announced matching funding today! An announcement was held at Hamsterly Beach with representatives from the triathlon community, fisherman, rowers, Beaver Elk Environmental Stewards and the CRD. Lana has been a big supporter of the lake and its activities - you may have seen her handing out finisher's medals over the years at the Victoria Half Ironman. Local triathletes Christy Gain, Harrison Elliott and Janet Nielsen jumped in the lake today to show everyone how much they appreciate swimming here and keeping this valuable asset alive and healthy! Thank you CRD and thank you Lana Popham! More on the announcement here: https://mailchi.mp//ndp-to-deliver-funding-to-clean-up-elk
