Today is Drone Safety Day. Safety is our number one priority and Victoria Airport Authority is currently working with FLIR Systems on development of a drone detection system. This trial at YYJ is comprised of a drone sensor and camera working with multiple sensors controlled through FLIRs Cameleon software. Using defined approval processes, multiple flight tests have already been completed with additional test flights to continue during the trial period. #DroneSafetyDay

November 13th is Drone Safety Day. Safety is our number one priority and Victoria Airport Authority has a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) communication plan with Nav Canada who approve RPA flights through required authorization requests. They then share all applicable approved flights with our Operations and Security departments and we refer to those notifications when we receive reports of drone activity in the vicinity of the airport to ensure they are approved fli...ghts. If the flight is not approved, a security response is initiated which includes response by the RCMP. Drones must be flown 5.6 kilometres from airports unless otherwise approved. If you see drone activity near the airport, please contact Airport Security at 250-953-7511. #DroneSafetyDay
