LIFT LIGHT TO SHOVEL RIGHT . Did you find yourself reaching for the heating pad not just to get warm this past week? Overdo it while removing the piles and piles of snow? . First, get assessed by your practitioner if you feel you've sustained an injury as a result of your shoveling. Second, here are some tips for preventing strains/sprains when shovelling in the future... . Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water Dress in several layers and wear boots with solid treads on the soles to minimize fall risk Use a lightweight, nonstick, push-style shovel When shoveling push, don't throw, and avoid twisting or turning Use your knees, leg, and arm muscles to push and lift while keeping your spine in neutral Lastly, watch for pesky ice patches! . Oh, and please salt your sidewalks with paw-safe salt to help protect your furry neighbours! They really appreciate it. See more

Posted @withregram @growco.rehab If your diastasis recti (DR) is not showing signs of healing, we need to ask why? DR on its own is not inherently bad, but when it’s not healing it’s a clue that there is some form of underlying dysfunction. Breathing mechanics?... Hypo or hypertonic pelvic floor? Scar tissue from c-section or tearing? If you have DR you’re at higher risk of: back pain hernia disc herniation pelvic floor dysfunction You might also feel like you still look pregnant, always bloated have a pooch. Commonly, we can resolve all issues through the application of proper exercises, techniques and lifestyle modification. Have you tried the GrowCo signature post natal rehab classes?

Hey all! With Windsor-Essex entering the red zone first thing tomorrow morning, we wanted to update you on our clinic operations. We’ll be open for business with the same measures we’ve been taking since re-opening in June. . Some ways to help continuing to prevent the spread are: . Do not enter the clinic in ANY capacity if you are experiencing symptoms- even mild. You will never be penalized for cancelling appointments due to this.... Wear a face mask at all times that completely covers your nose and mouth. Avoid bringing friends or family members to your appointments with you. Continue to fill out screenings which are emailed to you prior to each and every visit. Wash/sanitize you’re hands throughly before and after each treatment (we’re doing the same!) Maintain social distance where able by following the floor stickers. Opt for contactless payment methods. We also recommend having your receipts emailed to you. . We’re committed to keeping this community safe & moving! See more

B R E A T H W O R K . Think about how you normally breathe. Do your clavicles and chest rise? Do you hold your breath? Does your heart rate increase or decrease with your breath? . D i a p h r a g m breathing stimulates your vagus nerve, bringing your nervous system from the fight or flight response into your rest and digest operating system.... . This helps with stress, anxiety, and elicits a natural method of activating your transversus abdominus, helping to build your core. This is a great precursor to exercise. . To perform, place one hand over your chest and one over your belly. On each, deep inhale expand your stomach outwards and when you exhale draw the belly button in towards your spine and try to bring all 4 quadrants of your abdominals towards your belly button. . Try it yourself! See more

Posted @withregram @drevinkolm_ Why Acupuncture? Whenever patients ask me this question, I like to answer it by repeating something I heard @dralejandroelorriaga say think of the needles like an extension of your fingers. The needles essentially allow me to reach structures that are otherwise unreachable when only working on the surface. Another huge component of this treatment is that inserting needles allows me to directly interact with the internal structures that m...ay be giving you problems. The muscle that is giving you a problem could be as many as four layers deep! Or, if it’s a peripheral nerve that’s irritated, I can get a needle directly in its environment and provide a high frequency electrical stim to it. Peripheral nerve irritation may feel like tingling, numbness, burning or throbbing along a specific path along your extremities. It’s also a great way to stimulate the joint capsule (think where the arm attaches to the shoulder, or where the leg attaches to the hip) as these structures also have sensory innervation! What better way to treat them than by directly stimulating them?! Couple that with some Functional Range Conditioning (more on this later) and those joints will be moving like you’re 16 again Windsor victoriachiropractic.janeapp.com or 519.995.5079 Essex 519.776.5151 #acupuncture #chiropractic #neurofunctionalacupuncture #health #FRC #movement

N E W P R O D U C T A L E R T . We now carry SIGVARIS graduated compression socks! . What do they do? Compression acts as a additional layer of muscle that gently squeezes the weakened vein and encourages normal blood flow... . Benefits include: reduction in swelling, prevent blood pooling, relief of symptoms related to vascular disorder, prevention of spider or varicose veins, minimize risk of developing a venous disorder, and revitalization of the the legs . Who could benefit from compression? Skill trades workers, factory workers, hospital workers, teachers, hairdressers, desk workers and even massage therapists and chiropractors . Ask one of our trained practitioners at the office and we’d be happy to discuss this with you and get your fitted into some stylish compression socks . : 519-995-5079 : victoriachirowindsor.com : victoriachiropractic.janeapp.com See more

Thanks for the reminder that healing goes #BEYOND6WEEKS This is important. @growco.rehab certified professionals see far too many women, suffering from significant pain because they went back to their boot camp or pilates class the day after they were given their 6 week clearance. Please take note: the 6 week checkup is a measure of baseline survival NOT a for back to full activity. ... If you had ACL surgery 6 weeks ago, would you run a marathon today? Of course not, but that’s not the messaging women receive about their post partum recovery. Tag a new mom that needs to know this info! Mama, (and fitness professionals who work with mamas), please consider that in general it takes: 8 weeks for your uterus to fully shrink back to prepregnancy size 280 days for your ligaments to fully heal up to 5 months for your joints to fully stabilize up to a full year for your c-section incision to heal that hormonally, birth is the single largest sudden hormone change in the shortest amount of time for any human being, at any point in their life cycle a massive emotional toll on mom What #GROWCO is saying is that we’d all be well advised to move a little slower, and take care of mama, too. Having knowledge in how to train a woman when she presents to your fitness class after giving birth is a non-negotiable for fitness professionals. DM if you need some guidance with your return to activity after baby.
